[August, 2018] ...continuing my CGBP-project (The "Cadenhead Green Bottle Period" lasted from late-1990 until mid-1998 and is characterised by its small size white labels). I bought this bottle for 71 Euro in September, 2001.

This is a fine old style sherried dram that is interesting to explore both neat and reduced (play around with water at different strengths if you own a bottle) and easy-to-sip when reduced to about 50% abv or less. I like the chocolatey touch of the neat dram!
    • Nose
      89 89
The colour is auburn and the nose offers a fine old school sherry profile (even at the high strength of close to 65% abv). It is rather herbal-driven and I guess this was a PX cask. No off-note that I can find but it certainly cries for water. Some water makes no difference but a fair share really opens up the nose and presents spicy, chocolatey, fruity and nutty aromas while the herbs loose power. A pretty fine mix, indeed.
    • Taste
      90 90
The neat dram tastes like a perfect mix of sherry-induced and spirit-driven flavours but at this high strength it is hard to identify them one by one (except for the chocolate that stands out a little bit). After a fair share of water the taste offers what I always hope for in such old school sherry-matured drams: chocolate en masse, nuts, raisins, oranges, plums, figs and many more. All nicely balanced and without any flaw (of course, no sulphur as the cask was filled way before 1982).
    • Finish
      88 88
The whisky arrives hot (no wonder at 64.6% abv) and peppery in the mouth with just a minor coating feeling but no drying or astringent moments. The finish is of medium length and gets sweeter than the taste on fine sugars and more ripe fruits. There is a minor drying-cardboardy moment at the very end of the finish (in the reduced dram below 50% abv only).
