  9. HammerHead scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
      88 88
Mild but greasy smoke, quite nutty with peanut and walnut, a salty sea breeze note, eastern spices like cumin and curcuma, aniseed and a mild general citrus fruit sweetness and sourness. With water and some 15 to 20 minutes the citrus shifts to a more prominent lemon note (lemoncurd) and some mustard pops up.
    • Taste
      90 90
Campfire smoke, olive oil, salted black liquorice, four seasons pepper, an ashy but pleasing charcoal bitterness. No really distinct fruit notes, except for the modest citrus.
    • Finish
      90 90
Long: loads of black liquorice, peppery spices, there's a lovely barbecue smoke and espresso/cocoa bitterness at the end. No excessive wood bitters.

a very good bowmore, don´t expect a lot of fruit.
    88/100
    • Nose
a rather smoky one, burning twigs with a little tar and liquorice. slightly medicinal. almost no tropical fruits which we all love and expect when it comes to bowmore. but we got citrus and hints of passion fruit. and there´s a faint minerality to it with a slight dusty feeling. "chiselled" as they say.
    • Taste
medium sweet to dry with smoke and  there´s also some oak which turns lovely bitter. there´s also a little liquorice. the citrus is a little louder than on the nose but the smoke and oak overtake rather quickly. and it´s quite briny with quite a few dried black olives
    • Finish
      long, pleasantly bitter

A salty dram. Very good nose, more simple mouth a bit unbalanced on alcohol. But I liked it.
    • Nose
Peat smoke and coastal notes with salt, seaweed and wet stone. Whiffs of vanilla, mint and lime.
    • Taste
Peaty, briny and lemony. Slightly sweet and almondy. And the feeling of alcohol stinging the palate.
    • Finish
      Long, smoke, salt, liquorice.

    By Ruben, ( WhiskyNotes.be ) ;

    Bowmore 15 yo 1997
(53,8%, The Whiskyman 2012, 189 btl.)Nose: starts on cold smoke and grows more coastal over time. Wet furry animals, some gravel and seaweed. Soft iodine. Nice whiffs of eucalyptus and mint. Subtle vanilla and a lime sweetness in the background. Hints of nougat as well. Quite straightforward and constant, but well-balanced and really good. Mouth: oily, very clean, showing much more peat now. Again a firm coastal part, with brine and oysters with lemon. Taking the citrus theme a little further with pink grapefruit and tangerine. Less rounded notes than on the nose. Salty almonds. Yes, rather salty, even anchovies in the end. Finish: long, still salty, mixed with liquorice, smoke and lemon zest.A clean and relatively salty Bowmore. It’s only single malt (but I like it). Around € 90, in stores later this week.Score: 88/100http://www.whiskynotes.be/2012/bowmore/bowmore-1997-the-whiskyman/

A classic Bowmore, simple but well done.
    • Nose
fairly classic, salt, shellfish, seaweed, light lemon peat, vanilla, quite expressive. Very pleasant.
    • Taste
we find the aromas of the nose, quite simple but pleasant. Very slightly sweet, easy to drink. Hardly more peat now.
    • Finish
very little hint of bitterness but nothing annoying, lemon peat, iodine.

  21. Bishlouk scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

I really have been seduced by the nose, but really disappointed by the palate and finish which are too Bowmore standards for an IB.
I definitely have difficulties to find an Islay which I really like (except for very rare bottles).

My 83/100 rate is "not that bad" clearly thanks to the nose.
    • Nose
Typical Bowmore. Smoke, wood flowers. No agressivity, soft and clean. A feint scent of dryed straw on the end.
A complex & evolving nose, but keeping the Bowmore specificity. I like it a lot.
    • Taste
Disapointment from the start: too much alcool and nothing extra from the Bowmore standards. It's not bad but I expected something more "special" from an IB.

    • Finish
The alcool stays too long in the mouth, and the after taste is quite bitter (which doesn't stick to my personal taste). Fortunately the bitterness fades with time.
