N: Vibrant spirit that smells more like a cask strength bottling than 46% but which is certainly reeking of single cask status. Flavourwise theres ginger & raspberry chocolate, estery fruit cake, dark toffee with chocolate drops (what are they called?) and ‘fruits of the forest’ yoghurt. Its woody, sweet and rich overall with cocoa chocolate as the strongest/boldest note. As for the oak - its a stunningly fresh flavoursome cask providing a very charming nose.
T: Sweet and rich with an impressive and controlled arrival and development - fruity and sugary with ginger and sweet toffee/fudge. There’s an astringent varnish remover note but it's slight with the chocolate toffee notes prominent.
F: More spirit influence joins the chocolate - so it's a chocolate tequila finish. Gently eases from sweet to a mild bitter-sour.
C: Definitely the nicest Girvan I've tried, which isn't saying much - this one owing much to a cracking cask. The nose>arrival succeeds over a less than admirable finish which clearly highlights it's premature bottling in my opinion. Given another 10-15 years this could have been a cracker. As it stands right now its a very enjoyable youngish Lowlands grain.
