[January, 2020] Why not start the new year with a fine old Glenfarclas from my sample library (courtesy of a friend)...

...and this was a great idea! This is an impressive old-school sherry maturation without any flaw or off-note but dozens of delicious aromas and flavours to encounter. If you ever come across a sample, go for it!
    • Nose
      94 94
The colour is auburn and the nose offers an incredible impressive old-school sherry profile with still significant malt aromas breaking through to turn this nose into a complex experience. There are dozens of different aromas to explore with none of them being unpleasant or too dominant. Even after 46 years in oak the wood stays balanced and firm but never is aggressive. It looses a little steam upon oxidation so hurry to take your sniffs right after serving the dram.
    • Taste
      95 95
The taste is multiple layered on all the great sherry- and malt-induced flavours I can imagine with firm but never dominating wooden notes. No flaw or imbalance that I can find, all is close to perfection. This taste is greatly chewable and offers even more flavours this way. What else to say? Sláinte!
    • Finish
      95 95
The initial mouthfeel is warming and immediately coats all parts of the mouth with a sticky, creamy texture. There are no bitter or drying moments despite 46 years of maturation, this was an extraordinary high-quality cask. The finish is long and adds more of the delicious notes of raisins, dark fruits and chocolate. Again, no distracting bitter or astringent notes at all - this is an excellent texture.
