    25y whisky for 250,00 €
I can not find words for that
    • Nose
Manure from the cowshed mixed with soapy water
    • Taste
very dominant when starting the wrong note violet oil ...
with a flashback to the cowshed and the soapy water
      with much love and effort:
floral notes, some chocolate and tired fruits
    • Finish
      Violet oil, flowers, chocolate,

I remember tasting this a while ago and the lineup that particular night was unfair, to say the least. So I’ll give it a proper go in it’s own spotlight.

N: honey, heather, the smallest touch of wax, raspberries starting to turn, teasing leather, frustratingly weak.

T: leather, astringent, bergamot, tannins, flat

F: dry, slightly bitter, chocolate, tobacco, oak. Very short.

Unfortunately my original impressions stand. It’s all very flat, without any real special notes. Especially for an Islay. Really disappointing. My least favorite of the core range.

Well it's really not very good. But I laughed so much and it's so much an experience in itself that I can not put less than 3/5 in enthusiasm!
    Whisky n ° 1686
    • Nose
Floral, delicate, with a touch of bacon but also a little soap.
    • Taste
Ooh La La ! Ultra fluid to the touch.
But then in terms of aromas, it's SOAP A VIOLET!
    • Finish
And it continues !!! Persisting with that!

  7. Ostap scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Significantly aged, quiet, calm, whole whisky with a chic fit of components. But I did not feel the wow effect.
    • Nose
Pleasant, delicate Ailean smoky, prunes, dried pear, black bread, cupcake, figs, thick aroma, rich, raisins, milk iris, a little fresh wood, raw cardboard, fuel oil, background sherry. Over time, cardboard and minerality (chalk) begin to dominate. There are sour berries, medical peppers, mint, bandages, candies, drying compote. The aroma opens for a long time and adds significantly.
    • Taste
Thick, juicy, peppery, smoky, date, sweet smoked, sweet sauce for meat, currants, a little bacon.
    • Finish
Warm, juicy, dry, with smoke and pepper, currant, long, oak, knits.

  8. Bowmore Axel scored this whisky 78 points Connoisseur

The nose is still ok but the palate and finish are not.
Significantly too much wood influence. Hardly cute, but many
tart - bitter notes. Looks watery. Disappointing.
    Weakest Bowmore I've ever had.

Interchangeable, quite austere and soapy Bowmore. I do not like the structure very much. Ashen, minerish and dry in the mouth. Aqueous. Too bad...

The colour is mahogany. The nose starts with strong perfume note. Further aroma goes to dried fruits, raisin, light peated smoke, oak, berries jam, black currant, old furniture varnish, cacao and chocolate notes. The palate is peaty and perfume with notes of furniture varnish and grilled meat. The finish is long and perfume with spices, furniture varnish, dried fruits and light peated smoke notes. Bowmore 25YO is closed to be perfect. It has very good balance between sweetness, peatness and perfumeness. I love such Bowmore! I gave 92 points.

  13. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Fruit notes, which originate from Sherry & old peat. Soft, wood not dominant. Typical Bowmore flavor. Very tasty, albeit with a short finish.

  15. peatbogger scored this whisky 83 points Specialist

It's interesting, a bit different and not at all bad, but from a 25yo I would expect rather more. For the silly money it would set me back I would expect a lot more.
    • Nose
Some very soft peat, campfire ashes, The sherry tones are quite fruity and reminds me more of strawberries. Now and again a touch of very ripe banana. Old quality wood.
    • Taste
Something artificial about the initial taste, not unpleasant but just surprising. Actually a lot like a hot dead Cherry Coke, with a little spice. Not finding much else. Kind of a disapointment after the interesting nose.
    • Finish
The spice turns the Cherry Coke into Dr Pepper for the finish. Warm with a little chocolatte, but the artificial fizzy drink note persists all the way through.

Tested on sample, thanks to Thierry.
    • Nose
Gourmand on peat and sherry with a dirty and wild side. Fruit stewed (oranges), fresh leather, humus, farm scents.
    • Taste
Thick and fresh (mint). Notes of soot smoke, leather, sweet spices, eucalyptus candies, and those with violet.
    • Finish
Long and balanced, it goes off on sweet licorice and an ashen veil.

    A gentleman!
    • Nose
voluminous; heavy sherry; Boathouse; Smoked fish; ripe, pickled fruit; a touch of classic British aftershave
    • Taste
Toasted bread with salted butter; Hazelnut and raisin chocolate; Bread with fruits; Sherry over everything
    • Finish
a few drops of bitter medicine in sweet sherry; a lot of wood and nut; at rest, almost contemplative

  21. Safran scored this whisky 89 points Member Senior

Very good and nice to have. But the price helps to think about alternatives. Like independent bottlings.
    • Nose
Gentle peat, orange peel with sherry tones and vanilla.
    • Taste
Light sherry tones changes place with gentle salty smoke. Lighter in terms of smokiness than I expected. reminds me a bit Enigma. But his one has less smoke and more vanilla with cherries.
    • Finish
      Long, sweet and bit fruity.

    Huge disappointment!
    • Nose
Sea salt, a tiny sniff of bonfire, strawberries, mineraly, some vanilla and unbalanced sherry notes?
    • Taste
Lime, salt and some vegetables. It's like tasting a flat mezcal.
    • Finish
Wood sour, a tiny bit limy. Some peat.

@ASWhisky: That's exactly what I experienced when I tried it for the first time. The second time I left it in the glass for more then 45 min and it opened up quite nicely. It's still not a great dram and much too expensive, but it's not THAT bad. Wouldn't buy it again, though.

It takes a lot of time. At the beginning I thought aroma is really good, but then in the mouth ... Hmm well. But over time he gets really good.
    • Nose
Smoke and a lot of sherry. Very sweet and fruity aroma followed by caramel, chocolate and some vanilla.
    • Taste
Sweet, oily and nutty. Smoke and caramel with some oak. I think it's slightly salty.
    • Finish
Long complex and wonderfully warm, he says goodbye.

Recently had a blindfold in the glass,
smell it and ups, that reminds you of what ???
Behave first, then more intense and then the first sip.
NEIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNN, not another Bowmore from this dreadful '80s time window.
Can only confirm the notes of "alectron".
Although there was much more on this evening, this perfume touch dominated the entire evening.
IMHO one of the most disgusting malts I've ever drank and then this price ??????

  30. QuarterCentury scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A long-aged distillery-bottled Bowmore, a large proportion of the casks

used to assemble this 25yo are ex-sherry, giving sweetness and depth to

    this complex, fruity Islay malt.

  31. alectron scored this whisky 69 points Connoisseur

On a blind tasting this separated the group, half failing it w scores from 30-60ish, the other half of the room liking the "fruityness" w peat and weren't offended by the soapy/perfume/violet notes at all. so yea, before buying this, you should make sure you like this profile...
    • Nose
      parma violets +, bacon-y peat o, berocca (dissolvable vitamin tablets) o, rouge/chalky/powder o, iodine o/-, (73)
    • Taste
      ash/burnt paper +/o, artificial fruit drops turning soap-y (76)
    • Finish
then parma violets again, some wood, more perfumy towards the end with a fizzy touch of Cherry Ripe (candy bar) (66)

  32. Feusi scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Bowmore smoke, sherry and fruit in the nose. Nutty pleasant on the tongue with a beautiful finish, equal to the older bottlings.
