An almost perfect combination between peat and sherry. Thanks Falnor for the sample! Your tasting note below is well written.
    • Nose
Soft peat intermingled with sherry. It even has some sweet-sour farmy notes. Lots of menthol as well. Camphor. Later on some soap.
    • Taste
Syrupy texture which give a warm mouthfeel. Juicy oakiness. dried fruits of figs and dates. Orange marmelade. Espresso coffee and toffee. Spearmint again or is it pine (haha).
    • Finish
Long and lingering. Leathery smokiness. Tanininc. Bitter-sweetness. Slightly peppery.

Single dram, some time in 2013... forgotten note...
    • Nose
Leather & tobacco galore, burnt wood, sweet notes rising over time, coffee, oranges. (92)
    • Taste
Smoke, oily & menthol w more leather & light herbal notes. (91)
    • Finish
      More leather (90)

I expected something wild but it's all complex and very balanced. It will reward you if you try it with other whisky and retry it after some time.
    • Nose
Very delicate!? No such thing as peat fighting against sherry. Everything has it's own place and is rather quiet.
Some spice in the beginning, rubber notes but the nice ones! Dry& ripe peach. With other non-peated whisky's around you definitely will get the peat smoke.
    • Taste
Spices and old dry fruit are the main thing. Think of herbs from your garden, earthly notes, fallen leaves, dry citrus and oranges. Also coffee bonbons and some thick warming smoke.
It's cask strength, but it feels more like 45% than 50,7% so very drinkable
    • Finish
      Long, dry, gentle smoke.

This BenRiach has brought me memories for example on Talisker 1999 DE and Bruichladdich Infinity 3. It is always a component. A fabulous experience, this tasting, I brought a sample from the Whisky Festival 2014 and I'm excited about it.
    • Nose
The combination of smoked malt and barrels after PX gave us a beautifully full acrid scent. Peat is known, but it is roundly rounded. The most prominent ingredient is heavy fruity, sour fruit, kiwi and over-ripe plums, overgrown gooseberries, and a few moments. (93 b)
    • Taste
It is also very fruity and fruity in its taste, that is, in the first impression, then the reeds take over the peat, then replaced by a light toasting and finally comes a very long recipe of peat. (91 b)
