[October, 2018] I found about half a dram left in this bottle at the bar of the Fiddler's in Drumnadrochit and could not resist to empty it (simply to provide space for new bottles). Still one Mosstowie Lomond still is installed at the Miltonduff distillery (contrary to what most whisky writers state) because I have seen it during a recent visit there. It sits besides the latter that leads up to the (two) Miltonduff stills right when you enter the still house. But it never was used again after they abandoned the Mosstowie malt (due to lack of demand) back in 1981. A good reason to try the remains of this bottle…

...and it is an interesting to explore and easy-to-sip dram. I wish I had more than just the half dram and it was a great idea to empty this bottle, for sure. It was a long time ago that I had a Mosstowie and I did not remember it was that good!
    • Nose
      89 89
The colour is pale gold and the nose offers a bold and impressive grassy-herbal-fruity profile that is not too bad, actually. It is nicely balanced and without any off-note. Some water releases more chalky and mineral notes as well as some beeswax and oily aromas. Very interesting to explore and it all stays nicely balanced.
    • Taste
      88 88
The taste of the neat dram is very sweet and chewable with lots of spices, herbs and sugars in a fine mix. No flaw that I can find. After some reduction the barley sugars grow even stronger and drive the dram a little out of balance but the water releases a delicate white chocolatey flavour too. Nevertheless I like to nose it reduced to about 46% abv but prefer to drink it neat (despite the over-proof abv).
    • Finish
      88 88
The whisky arrives hot (63.6% abv) and nicely coating / creamy on the palate without distracting moments. The finish is long and adds some more bitter flavours that are not distracting at all. They rather join greatly into the flavours mix and will go away after adding some water while delicious chocolatey flavours pop up that way. The finish is better with the reduced dram...
