  1. DarrenHJA scored this whisky 68 points Connoisseur

Extremely brutal, not a punch to the throat but a bulldozer. Disgusting smell and a weird taste to follow.

    It's drinkable but not enjoyable.
    • Nose
      65 65
Carbon Monoxide full blast, gas stove with the gas running, burnt out toast that's virtually black and charred.

End on a slightly tid bit sweet note. Burn a rubber band, the phenols just rush through the nostrils. Lemon like feel with oily bits and bobs.

      EVERYTHING IS BURNT.
    • Taste
      65 65
An ashtray filled with burnt incense sticks and praying 'fish paper'. Then mix in some water and lap it up. Utterly vile and horrendous. Some sourness and sweetness comes at the end, to soften up and possibly calm the horrid start.
Very spicy and dry. Bitter too.
    • Finish
      75 75
Fishy and very oily, this is the best part of the whole dram. Sweetness with slight orange citrus tinge to end.

The finishing scores the points to outweigh the other two downfalls.

The taste is fine but minimal, but there is so much in the finish. This is not something to drink quickly, that would be difficult and foolish to take away from one of its assets which is the long finish.
    • Nose
      92 92
Smoky, funky, maybe some apple. Simple yet powerful and very good.
    • Taste
      84 84
Peppery, mildly oaky, medicinal a bit.
    • Finish
      96 96
Long. Smoky, earthy, ashy (the good kind) peat. Becomes a bit briny/cheesy.

Pungent sweet smoke, with Asian salted fish, and salty breeze. Some iodine, and pretty earthy as well, feels like organic matter (manure??). Very sharp bourbon sweetness and vanilla. Also smells like salty sweat.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet, cough sweets, quite salty, smoky of course, and it turns to be nutty in the end. Pretty oily on the mouth-feel, which is a good thing here. Suddenly a sourish note attacking your tongue
    • Finish
      85 85
Long and warmth, smoky and salty, also tarry and earthy.

"It's almost a fragile, despite its huge voluminous peatiness, this is actually really quite a fragile whisky. Surprisingly so."

  10. Calmar scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Suddenly, a soft and sweet mole, instead of the expected dryness and brutality, an absolutely imperceptible fortress and phenology, by the combination of youth of spirits, fortress and saturation with phenols reminds young Ledaig with a smoky dominant instead of rubber.
    • Nose
Strong, open, smoked meat, smoke, warm coals cooling the fire, dry peat, soft rubber notes, smoked metal, charcoal filter, shoe cream, lemon, stone dust.
    • Taste
Unexpectedly sweet, lemonade, rubber, peppery wave, caramel, coal, creamy sweetness, oranges, orange liqueur, toffee with ash mixed.
    • Finish
Sweet-coal, ash, condensed milk, toffee, lollipops, coal, peat, skins of oranges and tangerines, candied ginger, candied kumquats.
