TASTING NOTE LMDW: Color: bright gold with slightly amber highlights. Nose: powerful, full-bodied. Carved in the rock, it is marked by citrus zest (grapefruit, orange), iris concret and black pepper. It is as captivating as it evolves on pine resin and vanilla-bourbon. As time goes by, the orange is juicier. Palate: sweet, round. Much more fruity than the nose, it immediately affirms its Speyside character made of herbaceous notes (green malt), walnuts, mirabelle plums and flowers (lavender, lilac) and evolves on licorice and moist earth, evoking almost oily peat. Final: rich, heady. The broom, clove, leather and dark chocolate confirm its inclination to rusticity. The coconut, the lavender honey and the fresh walnuts send us back to the edge of the black hill near which the distillery is located. The retro-olfaction is downy and the glass is empty apricot and floral (lilac).

  5. WhiskyNotes scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

Not a bad dram, but I was a little disappointed by the amplification of its innate sulphury character. It didn't seem to bother me that much in earlier expressions, but here it slightly crosses the line (for me personally).
    • Nose
Rich with honey and sticky toffee as well as some nutty notes and burnt sugar. Not an overpowering type of sherry, which is good, but unfortunately it is also quite meaty and sulphury, something that is already present in the spirit and which is amplified by the casks.
    • Taste
Quite fruity, an apple / raisin combo, fruit cake and caramel. Hints of vanilla. Again a meaty / sulphury undertone.
    • Finish
Medium long, with chocolate, toffee and spices.

Not only the start of a very interesting design collaboration, this is
the first An Cnoc matured entirely in Spanish sherry casks. It tastes delicious and is limited to just 6,000 bottles worldwide.

    • Nose
Very rich anCnoc! Sweet cake with nuts and syrup
    • Taste
Now I get the honey and orange zest. Lovely sweet on the palate. Grenadine, caramel and raisins
    • Finish
Spicy and dryish on the finish. Long finish with notes of caramelized nuts and bouillon

Tasting notes from Royal Mile Whiskies:

Nose: The Spanish sherry oak is immediately apparent with treacle, demerara and brown toast flavours underpinning fresh zesty fruit. In fact, it basically smells like a freshly bitten toffee apple.
Palate: Plenty going on with weighty sherry wood, juicy apple and exotic fruitiness. A long but delicate finish accented by spice.
Overall: Vibrancy allied with mature juicy European oak. A lovely dram which is distinctively Cnocky but at the same time a new and different style for them.
