  1. Hemdl scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Elegant whisky, which I particularly like in the nose unbelievably good. Here the rum / sherry flavors and the pure age of the single malts harmonize almost perfectly. In terms of taste, I was surprised at how fruity and sweet he was, even though I might have liked to add a bit more of the rum flavors. But that is whining at a very high level.
    • Nose
Fresh, fruity - but the age is clearly noticeable. Sweet grapes coated with light honey and spicy oak shake hands. Citrus fruits (especially oranges) and the slight smell of broken pine needles. The whole results in a sweetish-strong compote, on which one can not "Sattriechen". I would not have guessed a Glenlivet behind, the floral aromas are completely missing here.
    • Taste
Very oily on the tongue, the cask strength of 46.1% Vol. Is very pleasant and fits into the picture.
Again, the fruity-sweet flavors first show up here. Honey and raisins dominate before walnuts and drier aromas that I attribute to sherry. But he still looks surprisingly sweet, the 40 years in the barrel have not killed him. Only gradually do the flavors of spicy oak turn into a slightly harsh bitterness, which does not cause any disturbance.
The taste is very elegant, here I had expected due to the simple age and the long storage time in sherry barrel almost more noticeable bitterness. This was - fortunately - not so. It would have been perfect if the rum flavors had shown stronger here.
    • Finish
In the finish then shows after a short flash of fruitiness, the full maturity of this malts and the long time in fino sherry cask. The dry sherry the tannins show up, but not unpleasant (as I have had with various Balvenie already), but rather the age of the Malts underlined the long finish sounds so slow.
