  1. Maltkanzlei scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Every event at Brühler Whiskyhaus brings new (ADOS) single casks. For the annual Feis Brühl, it’s exclusively Islay. This year, I personally expected the 25yo Laphroaig or 9yo Octomore to win. Unexpectedly, this 'Islay South Coast‘ stood out. Easily the strongest whisky in a good lineup IMHO.

    NOSE
Intense. No gentle knock, it rolls in deep and dark. Freshly baked crusty bread meets bitter unsweetened cocoa powder, backed by ripe black cherries and wild blueberries. With time, the Amarone cask opens up: rum-soaked raisins take over. Just when you think it’s heading – rather ADOS-like – toward something too lush, the Islay DNA cuts through with salt and blood orange zest. The smoke? Not a bonfire, but hints of freshly laid asphalt somewhere in the distance and cold cigar smoke.

    PALATE
Big, bold, and immediate. Dry and beautifully “dirty”. Cold wood ash, a dying beach fire, and a chalky, saline mineral edge. Pure south coast character, unfiltered. Then it shifts: the texture turns oily, and bittersweet dark chocolate melts alongside stewed blackberry jam. The Amarone cask adds a wine-soaked richness that perfectly frames the smoke. Towards the end, black pepper and toasted oak take over.

    FINISH / VERDICT
Long, drying, and elegant. The sweet fruit slowly fades, leaving ash, cocoa, and oak spice. At the very end, a faint salty, smoky tobacco note lingers on the lips.
A great example of two worlds in harmony: maritime, peaty Islaw south coast character meets the opulent power of an Italian Amarone cask. A dram for anyone who loves heavy smoke paired with flawless wine influence.
