  1. didi1893 scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

Old and dignified, voluminous and extremely changeable. Incredibly sweet and fruity, earthy with muted smoke. The complex and multi-layered Ledaig convinces with its wonderful character and interplay of aromas. I'm excited!

    • Nose
Creamy amber rests in the glass, on the glass wall of my Premium Snifter, viscous "legs" pull their long paths back into the glass. Yellow berries and caramelized sugar rise fruity, the voluminous alcohol pushes demanding from the glass, apricots and mirabelle plums combine with toffee and caramel to form a wonderfully sweet and fruity unit. There are minimal smoky elements in the air while more and more slightly tart citrus fruits appear. Spicy wood tones play with smoked malt, old grapefruits and dried lemons appear, the smoke is discreetly held back and is wonderfully harmoniously integrated. Vanilla and sugar end in hints of milk chocolate, a wonderful interplay of sweet yellow fruits and dull, slightly sour citrus fruits inspires the nose, in the background is heavy dark smoke which, however, shows its mild and gentle side. Minimally earthy and peaty nuances show up, the next moment the nose is extremely sweet and fruity again.
    • Taste
Dark fruit elements flow sweetly over the tongue, earthy peat and muffled smoke flood the palate, dried apricots and mirabelle plums stick to the cheeks while a subtle spiciness slowly sets in. A pinch of black pepper with a few grains of salt tingles the tongue, the mouth feel becomes oily and greasy. Roasted hazelnuts and dark wood tones play with each other, with old mint in the background. Gradually, earthy notes come into their own, walnuts end in spicy cedar wood, smoky wood tones and roasted malt appear minimally. Citrus fruits accompany the second sip on its way through the mouth. Caramelized sugar ends up tart and sour on the tongue when grapefruit peels are rubbed off, while subtle spiciness massages the tip of the tongue and stimulates the flow of saliva. Hazelnuts and earth, chocolate and old vanilla, cedarwood and dried tobacco, minimal smoke and dry wood tones. Dried herbs and a hint of thyme, creamy hazelnuts and hints of raisins, earthy and loamy, a few squirts of lemon and zest from old dried grapefruit peel.
    • Finish
Slightly smoky wood tones with earthy elements stick to the palate, oily and greasy, caramel and citrus fruits compete, the complete palette of the taste is reflected. The wonderfully intense aromas stick to the palate for a long time, slowly fade away after what feels like eternity and leave minimal peat and earth on the palate, citrus fruits and ground hazelnuts stick to the tongue.
