The Distilled at South Islay 13 Year Old from Brühl Whisky House is a robust and smoky whisky that also possesses a pleasant sweetness. The sweet peat smoke is very pronounced on the nose. This is complemented by cherries, raisins, and other dark fruits, creating a fruity impression. Spicy oak, smoked bacon, and maritime notes round out the aroma and give the whisky its typical Islay character. On the palate, the interplay of sweetness, smoke, and spice continues. The spicy oak is ever-present but is accompanied by sweet notes, caramel, and dark dried fruits. The whisky is full-bodied and robust. A subtle licorice note emerges in the background, which complements the smoky character well. The finish is long and is primarily characterized by smoke and dry oak. Towards the end, a slightly musty wood note lingers, giving the whisky its own unique character. Overall, this is an intense Islay whisky where smoke, spice, and dark fruit notes take center stage. The sweetness provides a good balance and prevents the whisky from tasting too dry. Those who enjoy smoky bottlings with a strong cask character and a pleasing blend of sweetness and dark fruit will likely find this whisky to their liking.

Nose: Sweet, spices, dark cherry, smoke, dark dried fruit, licorice, oak, Black Forest ham | Palate: Sweet, smoke, spices, oak, licorice, dark cherry, dark dried fruit | Finish: Medium-long, sweet notes, smoke, licorice, and oak linger. | Conclusion: The nose is sweet and intense. Spices, licorice, dark cherries, and smoke appear at the beginning. Dark fruits and licorice follow. Oak is still present. I'm reminded of Black Forest ham. The palate begins smoky and intense. Spices, oak, and licorice appear initially. Dark cherry and dark dried fruit are also present. Everything seems heavy and cooked down. A great Laga. Intense smoke and intense cask influence. Wow, this is delicious. I have no off-notes. | 90 points
