  1. Raistlinmejere scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

It needs to decanter for half an hour. Pleasant but lacking in memorability; very sweet but the fruitiness doesn't quite match; complex but the expression isn't clear enough. The vintage is indeed very high, and the body is undeniably solid, but the expression still feels somewhat lacking. Adding water could make it more palatable, but decanting would intensify the astringency and further diminish the enjoyment of drinking it.

    • Nose
      90 90
It has a slight alcoholic note. The notes are of honey, maple syrup, fruit hard candy, sweet apple and orange, a hint of pineapple, some moist woody notes, and a touch of moist stewing spices, with a hint of mint and cloves at the finish. The sweetness is very pronounced, even a little cloying when first opened, but becomes just right after aeration.
    • Taste
      88 88
The initial taste is slightly alcoholic and very smooth, with a distinct syrupy flavor. The syrup is so sweet it's almost smoky, swirling throughout the palate, revealing notes of nectar, maple syrup, concentrated yellow fruit juice, a touch of sweet cream, and dried herbs. The mid-to-late stages develop noticeable spiciness, spices, and dry woody notes, which detract from the overall enjoyment. It's quite complex, but the description is not clear enough.
    • Finish
      87 87
It begins with a fruity smoke, followed by notes of honey and concentrated yellow fruit juice, quite sweet. The later notes gradually transition to dry woody notes, spices, slightly astringent tannins, and some unsweetened nuts. Overall, it's a half-sweet, half-dry flavor. It's quite powerful and long.
