A very funky, farmyard-ish nose. Sweet with the same funk on the palate with a long afterglow.

I bought this in '05 only got around to opening it last year. It's definitely benefited from resting in the open bottle. It is very busy. The Tokaji comes though making it a complicated but approachable whisky. It's still kicking around occasionally in the auctions, isn't horribly expensive and is well worth a go..

With a drop of water. Sherry. Sweet dessert wine. Faint oak. Xmas cake. Xmas pudding. Grapes
    • Taste
      85 85
(Again with a drop of water) Grape must. Alcohol. Soft fruit. Bitter almonds. Grapes.
    • Finish
      86 86
Long and warm. Dried fruit. Demerara sugar. Marzipan.

Nice base distillate, but maybe a little bit of finish, but the Tokaj feeling came through.
    • Nose
Creamy. Peat, musty basement and ash. Unripe fruits. Touch of sulfur and phosphorus.
    • Taste
Bittersweet. Big oak with vivid acids, but the botrytis Tokaj flavors comes well with it.
    • Finish
      Medium length, sweet, spicy.

A very peculiar whisky. It’s interesting in some respects, with the
thick, sweet Hungarian dessert wine fighting with damp peat smoke for
attention. But it tastes a little disjointed, and a bit too youthful.
With a few more years aging (before finishing in the Tokaji wine), the
flavors should integrate and mature better. But as it is, this whisky is
    still “work in progress.”
