  1. Maltkanzlei scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

No easy malt for balmy summer evenings. Rather a very demanding, powerful and quite elegant companion for long chimney nights. A solitaire that I find hard to imagine in a tasting of multiple malts. This malt is so extraordinary that some may not be able to do much with it.
    • Nose
Powerful - if you like it! Intense memories of waxed wood, slightly salty, roasted almonds, orange zest, dried fruit and old leather. Broken brandy beans come to mind, which is probably due to the combination of sherry and dark cocoa notes. Spices like cardamom and lovage complete the flavors. Definitely an absolutely extraordinary nose. Very intense and promising.
    • Taste
Voluminous and oily it acts on the tongue. He keeps on the palate, what the nose promises. Warm, strong start without feeling sick. If I had blindly determined my age, I would have been at 16+ years rather than just 9. The orange zest in the nose has become slightly bitter English orange marmalade. Bitter sweet notes mix with the impression of slightly salty, strong toasted almonds. Peanut butter comes to mind, but it does not quite meet. Salty caramel and dark forest honey. The Sherrynoten are those of a massive Amontillado. Quite a lot of old oak and fresh tobacco leaves resonate with taste. The barrel must have been very old but at the same time immensely active, if in just 9 years it could form such an intense and characteristic malt.
    • Finish
Wonderfully long, warm finish. Slightly drier than the nose and palate expect, but not uncomfortable, fits in well with the coherent overall picture that conveys this distinctively distinctive Malt. Dark chocolate and the oak remain long after the Valinch has left.
