Braes of Glenlivet 1975 GM

Nose

Ripe apple, honey, a slight touch of sulfur. Feels somewhat like a well-made first-fill Glenfarclas.

A peculiar funky note, slight berries, gooseberry, melon, ripe fruits, vegetables, a faint chestnut blossom note, green grape.

Overall, it gives the impression of a nicely executed first-fill Glenfarclas-style profile. The projection is fairly solid as well.
It doesn’t feel like a pure bourbon cask to me—if anything, I’d guess refill sherry.
Officially it’s labeled simply as “refill American oak,” but based on my own experience, it comes across differently.

Palate

Slight sulfur, berries, stone fruits, apple, honey, green grape, more stone fruits, sweet-and-tart chestnut blossom, sulfur, honey, fruit.

The flavors come through quite clearly and distinctly.
There is a bit of sulfur, but personally I’m fine with this level, so I enjoyed it quite a lot.

Finish

Sulfur on the finish, barley, slight fruit skins, honey, a faint metallic note.

Just decent overall.
Clear enough to identify the flavors, but it passes by shortly and rather bluntly.
