better than I remembered it. a slightly austere dram but good quality. you´ll have to be a friend of old school whisky to really like it.
    86/100
    • Nose
old style whisky with lots of shoe polish. dried figs and some raisins.
a faint smokiness and quite some alcohol. putty and petrol jelly.
cider apples and ginger. warm butter.
    • Taste
creamy mouthfeel, noticeable sherry influence, slightly ashy and chalky. relatively dry, slightly oaky, slightly peaty.
    • Finish
      medium, dry

A lot of sherry in the nose with a border of fruit (cherry / grape). Taste is initially that of a "standard" sherry finish but in the aftertaste fairly spicy with a sweet fruit tone. Very little hint of smoke. Very tasty.

    a very nice dram.
    • Nose
Strange but nice, a lot of ginger, it reminds me of a gingerbread snack
    • Taste
it starts with the sherry, but later it opens up with orange chocolate and spices
    • Finish
Long, at first you still notice the 50% but as it stays the spices stay.

First you have the typical sherry note, but during tasting it gets more complex. I loved this oily, mild and not over sherried whisky which gives you a really full body and a long warming finish. A real must have if you like the old style of whiskies in the 50s & 60s.

    Producer`s Tasting NotesUndiluted
    Nose:

Initial buttery note, delicate floral influences. A prominent toasted

malt note with subtle sherry notes in the background.

Palate: Starts creamy and becomes very sweet. Heavily toasted malt
influences with a very delicate smoke. Mouth watering and complex.

    Finish: Long and smooth.

    With Water
Nose: Prominent sweetness with heavy malt influences. Delicate orange peel
    note and some smoke.

Palate: Initially peppery, becomes sweeter with a very subtle smoke in the
    background. Mouth watering and smooth.

    Finish:  Long and balanced.

First impressions are often misleading you know. Actually this is splendid stuff altogether. I drank it neat and, believe it or not, it goes darn good without water.
    • Nose
It may seem somewhat off-putting initially, or even sickening. Manure?, wet dog, sweaty gym shoes, damp cardboard. But thankfully it gets far better further on. Prunes and soaked raisins appear in addition to the sugary scent of a confectioner's shop. Yep, it improves markedly with time.
    • Taste
After such a queer nose, there is nothing wrong with the taste however. Complex, full-bodied. Biscuits, sponge cake, orange, spices, chocolates, whipped cream.
    • Finish
Fairly long. Hot, still moderately hot in view of its solid 50% ABV. Cherries, sweet cherries, Katarzynki (Polish gingerbread), black pepper. Pretty consistent.

  8. MacMenM scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

    interesting whisky
    • Nose
lots of pasties, croissants, changes into ginger and porridge, bit of peat
    • Taste
all kinds of nuts, i was thinking on a cider, dry sherry to, cooked butter too
    • Finish
long finish, gingery, a little peat
