Not surprising, but very tasty. By sticking to the typical cask composition for this bottling, they want to show how far the malt has matured after 10 years. And this extended maturation is definitely noticeable compared to older bottlings. And all this without having to change the Kingsbarns DNA. A development in the right direction. Well done and keep it up!

    • Nose
Typical Kingsbarns, typical bourbon. The initial impression on the nose is clearly dominated by vanilla and pastries (shortbread/butter cookies). But only briefly, because then a whole fruit basket full of sweet, yellow fruits floods the nose. I also find the typical stone fruits (apricots, nectarines, and peaches), as well as a slightly tropical touch (banana, honeydew melon). Citrus fruits are discernible in the background, and the alcohol is very well integrated. In my opinion, the sweetness even increases over time, and after the first taste, the aroma reminds me somewhat of syrup.
    • Taste
It coats the tongue with a velvety softness and sweetness, but then the intensity quickly increases. The fruits emerge, the entire spectrum of yellow fruits. Only after a few seconds do I detect the shortbread on my tongue (almost the opposite of how I smelled it). Then a spicy-bitter note from the STR barrels spreads. A lovely addition. Nutty notes and marzipan emerge in the finish.
    • Finish
The finish begins with a pronounced honey note before the fruit flavors fill the palate. As the initial impressions settle, the mouthfeel becomes slightly drier, and notes of pastry paired with subtle oak emerge. I would describe the finish as medium-long, with a hint of fruit lingering the longest.
