  1. glen efze scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

The 100 Proof Edition has become a whisky universe all its own, offering plenty of opportunities for discovery. In the summer of 2025, two Orkney (HP) whiskies were distilled back-to-back. This one was finished in Amontillado hogsheads, the other in Palo Cortado hogsheads. Let's see if they differ.

    • Nose
On the nose, a blend of light smoke and fruit with a touch of wood clearly identifies this whisky as a Highland Park. There are notes of oranges, orange peel, and even a hint of orange marmalade. This is complemented by the light smoke with heather and the characteristic wood notes from the heather. The alcohol is well-integrated, and the aromas are robust.
    • Taste
The alcohol is strong on the palate; with a splash of water, more caramel comes to the fore, and the whisky becomes creamier. There's also chocolate cream and orange marmalade. Even with water, the whisky is quite hot.
    • Finish
The aftertaste leaves a lingering hint of heather peat smoke on the palate, accompanied by a touch of ginger spice. As this fades, a subtle hint of smoky chocolate remains, which is quite pleasant.

Perhaps the whisky is a touch too hot. Otherwise, it certainly has lovely Highland Park aromas. As is often the case with 100 proof bottlings, the whisky isn't particularly complex. However, the Highland Park character manages to assert itself against the cask, and a nice creamy caramel note also emerges.
