Old style sherry when it’s best. Soft, smooth and exceptionel complex

Absolutely awesome, the only reason why he doesn't get one or two more points is that there is almost no distillery character, maybe. the noticeable anise in the finish that I often have at Longmorn.
    • Nose
Boaaah, cool, pure happiness hormones in a glass, drink old stuff quite often, but haven't had a really thick sherry stew for a long time, not a fine cognac-like substance, but really hearty, fresh ginger, plum compote, plum mustard, rum raisins, saffron, Camphor, fresh cumin, blackberries, black pepper, nutmeg, coffee beans, dark chocolate, oiled leather
    • Taste
Sherry mulled wine from very old oak, rum raisins, plum compote, quince, black cherry, baked apple, blood orange, pomegranate, saffron, camphor, nutmeg, black pepper, licorice, sweet liquorice, fine coffee liqueur, blackberry jam, wine gums (especially the red and black), mahogany cabinet
    • Finish
Pure sherry chewing gum that sticks to the teeth and throat and is biting, perverse, nutmeg, brown sugar, cinnamon, anise, dark honey, cocoa beans, forever

The best whisky I ever had in my glass. Absolutely balanced in all things, yet complex. Alcohol strength perfect. You can not do it better!
    • Nose
Amarena cherry, spicy sherry, raisins, nutmeg, alcohol excellently integrated, sweet caramel popcorn
    • Taste
sweet dark fruit, spicy, tingling the oak outstanding, dry on the palate, alcohol is not felt
    • Finish
Long sweet-bitter in the mouth, warming the esophagus, dark chocolate, oak in the right proportions, in the end the oak gets stronger, but with the sweetness it always remains perfectly integrated

Punchy, oily, liquorice, dark and dried fruits, plums, prunes, figs, more toffee, good sweetness, more chocolate, good sherry wood - great!
    • Finish

Long, warm, more woody, zesty, some tannins, not drying

Longmorn 35 yo 1968/2004 (51.7%, Scotch Malt Whisky Society, 7.25) Colour: mahogany. Nose: extremely similar on the nose, maybe a tad less chocolaty but much meatier and a little more phenolic and resinous. Gets much nicer than the 38 yo after a while, with some beautiful organic notes emerging. Forest, mushrooms, smoke… Then litres of high-end balsamic vinegar, also sherry vinegar, dried morels, pure cocoa… Amazing how this one developed on the nose, whilst its bro stays much more restrained, even after a good twenty minutes. A matter of education, probably… Mouth: oh yes, it’s certainly better than the 38 yo on the palate. Sweeter, rounder but not less complex (yet compact), with lots of sultanas, crystallized oranges, baklavas, chocolate, apricots, toffee, café latte… Not the most brilliant sherry monster I’ve ever had but it’s perfectly palatable in its own genre. Nice medium-long finish, a little fresher and fruitier (prunes). Very, very good, like many old Longmorns (but still no absolute winner). 90 points.

Matured, complex sherry bomb with a sweet sour competition.
    • Nose
Big sherry, tannic oak, rum cherry, plum and raisin. Antique leather, sawdust and varnish.
    • Taste
Powerful. Sherry, plum jam, orange peel, ginger and pepper. Oak, milk chocolate and motor oil.
    • Finish
      Long, creamy, bittersweet.
