A really tasty Port Ellen. As is so often the case with PEs matured in bourbon casks, it is quite similar to the Caol Ilas from the early 80s.

A constant interplay of fruity, smoky and maritime components that complement each other nicely. Balanced and round, with enough power.
    • Nose
Dense, old plucking bags, peaty earthy, mussel shells, clearly maritime notes, then it gets fruity with pears, peach, unripe bananas, apricot brandy. Fine, dry smoke. Grapefruit in the background. Wet fur. Deep.
    • Taste
Round, oily, good volume and power. Concentrated.
Caramel, smoke that becomes phenolic-iodine, clearly salty-maritime, pepper, pears, smoked apricots. An interplay of fruity, smoky and maritime components.
    • Finish
Long and nicely balanced. Again the phenolic-iodine smoke, then fresh aromas (fresh culinary herbs and bright fruits, pear, unripe banana) and the salty-maritime aromas. Some pepper. Then dried fruit. Dry, but not bitter at all.
