1212- WESTWARD M&P CASK BAROLO CHINATO CASK COLLECTION CLUB SINGLE MALT Whiskey 62.5%
...a strong and full-bodied whiskey, long-lasting. This isn't a quick bottle; it requires time, even a contemplative approach. It will certainly reward you. The States aren't just about bourbons. It's worth opening yourself up to other spirits, and this one is at the forefront. If the opportunity arises, it's worth at least trying.
    • Nose
...strong, decisive, you can tell the distillate had a lot in common with wine. ...I don't recommend taking too deep a sip, as it's sure to clear your sinuses. There's a lot of heavily processed dessert fruit here. A very dark fruity ointment that serves as an addition to all sorts of baked goods. I don't want to, but I have to put the glass down and check the empty one. There are also wine notes here, but also many others, such as roasted coffee, puffed rice, grain coffee, camphor, rapeseed oil, tart plum, and mirabelle plums. It's rich. I'm going back to the full-bodied version – the aroma is inviting, multi-layered, the spices... surprisingly delicate. Warm yeast cake with fruit. The caramel is a bit burnt. There's something to be found here.
    • Taste
...there's power, not only in the ABV but also in the flavor experience. First, there's something unconventional... like an extract from some vegetable or herb with a touch of caramel. Sweet, yet slightly tart. A touch of bitterness at the end. The spices aren't hidden here: cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon balm, a bit of mint in both mint and chocolate versions. The liquid first burns a bit and then warms. It all ends with a winey acidity and tartness. It's rich, and the whole thing is almost bite-worthy. Another approach - dense, everything condensed, full-bodied. Even the power is manageable. Strong chocolate, or perhaps even coffee... thick with spices and black caramel. It simultaneously warms and bites into the gut.
    • Finish
...exceptionally long, sweet and bitter at the same time, spicy and tangy. Heavily toasted. It lasts and lasts, with tannin at the very end, and a strong wet barrel note.
