Yes, really a Fine Oak. A very nice drop, typical Speyside, unfortunately not typical Macallan. Pleasant and easy to enjoy, but also in the price clearly too ambitious. 200 euros less would be in my opinion the filling.
    • Nose
Sweet, tropical fruits adore the nose and make the mouth water. Behind it are gentle floral notes and a pleasant, yet intense oak maturity of European oak.
Vanilla and caramel come to the fore. They carry the inimitable stamp of the Bourbon Casks, from which the FO comes to the other part. But the sherry casks of the last third of this blend are also noticeable in the background, though not nearly in the intensity that Macallan is used to.
    • Taste
Something sherry and dark fruit to kick off. Then a barrage of warming oak and orange juice. Everything mixes with dark chocolate with orange peel, espresso and wood glaze. A very delicate hint of smoke floats in the background and plays around the hint of sherry flavors.
    • Finish
Long with oak and vanilla, some caramel syrup and a hint of orange.

Elegant and solid, reserved and gentle, a real gentleman! On the one hand I am impressed by this elegant and reserved character of a true gentleman, on the other hand a man has to be a real guy and sometimes a dirty bag ...

    • Nose
Light amber rests in the premium snifter, hazelnuts rise, otherwise the nose appears extremely closed and reserved. Creamy oak tones, minimal apricot and orange, the alcohol is harmoniously integrated (understandable at "only" 43%), after a while velvety vineyard peach is added, minimal toffee appears. The nose gains fruitiness over time, subtle milk chocolate and toffee lie in the background. Fine spicy wood tones and a reserved character, I probably have an old gentleman in the glass ...
    • Taste
Mild, gentle and creamy. Well, the first impression looks a little flat ... Creamy wood tones combine with toffee and chocolate, apricots and mandarins rest on the palate, gently massaging subtle sharpness on the tongue. Delicate oranges and tangerines, a hint of toffee and chocolate, minimal cedar wood and minimal smoky notes. The gentleman is also reserved in taste ...
    • Finish
Gentle and mild, elegant and solid. Insignificantly, a little bit of spiciness sticks to the palate as a tiny sign of life, after which creamy toffee and all-purpose chocolate rest on the palate for a while and flatter the tongue ...

Soft oak, i got it as a present, was really nice
Not sure if i can afford one, but absolutely astonishing by Macallan

Horribly overpriced. Probably worth a third of the price. It's nice but hardly different from the 15 year old Fine Oak which is great but no longer available. The best bargain of the series was the 15 year old, the 18 is thicker and richer but also overpriced. I just wouldn't bother with this to be honest. My rating represents also the value for money.

Definitely not even close to the 25 hour the 18.

The Macallan Fine Oak series are aged in a combination of intricate wood finishes. For the 21 Year, the single malt whisky was aged in Spanish oak seasoned with sherry, American oak seasoned with sherry and American oak seasoned with bourbon.

    Producer`s Tasting Notes

    Colour: Light Amber.

Nose: Intense rich aroma, with hints of vanilla and passion fruit.

Palate: Soft, rich and spicy with hints of oranges and peat.

Finish: Lingering with hints of wood smoke.

Comment: When the rich Macallan whisky is allowed to spend twenty-one

years maturing in the finest oak casks tucked away in the warehouses at

Easter Elchies estate, the result is a whisky of exceptional elegance,

    poise and refinement.

"Matured in mixture of sherry and bourbon casks. This range has been

around for a few years now and seems to have weathered the storm it

caused amongst the faithful when it was initially released."
