[March 2025] It was quite a long time ago that I had an old Inchgower, and I cannot really remember how it was. What a good reason to open this bottle...

...and it was a good decicion as well. This is a traditional old-style (spirit-driven) dram with an unspectacular profile, which is easy and enjoyable to drink. Nothing to impress your friends with, but great to start into a tasting session - to check your taste buds are sensitive enough for even more delicate drams to come.
    • Nose
      89 89
The nose is delicate with a clear spirit-driven profile, which I like much better than the rather uniform wood-driven ones. It is mainly based on grassy-herbal aromas without any spectacular impressions, but why should every dram be spectacular? It is nicely balanced without any off-note, and it opens up further upon oxidation. So be patient with this baby...
    • Taste
      89 89
The taste is much more powerful than expected, given the delicate nose. Both the barley sugars and waxes are impressive, and perfectly balanced with their sweet and bitter notes. The grassy and floral flavours are nice additions, as are the spices. Again nothing spectacular about this taste, but it is right up my alley for starting a tasting session.
    • Finish
      88 88
The initial mouthfeel is warming and coating without any distracting moments, I like that. The finish is of medium length and turns a little drying towards the end, and this fits into the overall profile. Interestingly, adding water to this dram kills the nose almost instantly, and the taste turns a little harsher. This does not improve after adding more water - so this dram is best when neat, bo doubt about it.
