[April, 2017]  ...continuing my CGBP-project (The "Cadenhead Green Bottle Period" lasted from late-1990 until mid-1998 and is characterised by its small size white labels).  To make it more interesting I compare it to a recently tasted Craigellachie of the same vintage and age (WB id 11610, bottled 1997).  I bought both bottles for 69 Euro each in April, 2005.
    • Nose
      85 85
The 1996 is about two shades darker than the 1997 bottled. The nose of the 96 is more sweet and rich than the 97. It is mainly on toffee and summer floral aromas, some herbal notes too. Not too bad. But the 97 is somewhat more balanced - so I vote for a draw...
    • Taste
      87 87
The taste of the 96 has a very sweet body with some interesting nutty and herbal flavours added (hard to name, but a little eucalyptus/menthol for sure). I like that more than the 97 with its hot moments on the palate. But it is still not overly complex. With some water the 96 gets smoother and easier to approach (as does the 97) and of course it is more sippable that way - but nevertheless you should explore it first when neat. It is a punchy profile, but sometimes everyone loves to be punched...
    • Finish
      86 86
The initial mouthfeel is very bold and mouth-coating on both drams with maybe a slight advantage for the 97. But the 96 is rich and intense too. The 96's finish is very long and very sweet, not the slightest sign of dryness. Again I like it more than the 97 that is a little bitter in the very end.
