    A nervous Ledaig dat jumps in all directions, but thanks to the addition of some water settles down and turns into a gem. That is not a bad thing, because that means more bang for your buck, no? Around 80 EUR.
    • Nose
      Can a nose be called nervous? If so, this one falls into that category, I think. I get a mixed bag of sweet versus salt. Sweet: think raisins and some toffee. But the salt is represented stronger with brine and dried fish. Some wet earth and flints. Steamed vegetables à la cauliflower and broccoli. A lot of peat, too. Adding water makes it sweeter and I think that is a good thing.
    • Taste
      Ouch, what a hot attack! What did you expect, with such an ABV? Again, it is the brine that dominates, followed immediately with sweet peat and dark fruit. Raisins again, but also dried plums and maybe even some blood oranges. But so salty! With a teaspoon of water (two in fact, but keep that under your hat), it is much softer and (at least to my taste) much nicer. The sweet fruit is more pronounced.
    • Finish
      The undiluted finish is bittersalt, while with water is becomes bittersweet.

    A fair amount of rubber and tar on the nose, with gooseberries and vanilla custard underneath, and even a slightly odd horseradish and cold salmon note. Very concentrated palate with orange and mint, herbal syrup and salted smoked eel. The finish is long and evolves nicely with sugared eucalyptus and salted ash smoke. It's the palate though that really impresses.

    Standard ledaig with sherry. Good kick from the alcohol.

    For 13 years the barrel has practically eaten the base, the smoky smoked tones only with time, on the flight, make their way from under sherry abundance recalling that this is not just one of the numerous sherry monsters, there is very little rubber. Otherwise, everything is fine - a beautiful balance, deep and rich flavor, excellent work with the fortress - no discomfort from more than 60% is not felt, interesting, piteous.
    • Nose
      Raw, cool, raw rotten stump, earth, Puer tea, mushrooms, acetone, oak, raisins, dried fruits, dried apricots, prunes, light smoky notes, pine branches, resin, Lapsang suhong, carpentry - varnish, putty, thinner, burnt paper , an old campfire.
    • Taste
      Oak, dried fruits, peppery wave, creamy notes, boiled condensed milk, toffee, in the background coal and burnt branches, smoke, ash.
    • Finish
      Butter, lemon, toffee, boiled condensed milk and again from the background the Ledaig base is pierced - smoke, coal.

    Farmhouse as it's best;
    • Nose
      Klassischer Ledaig: schwer, dreckig und "farmy", unverkennbar aber nicht extrem;
    • Taste
      Total würzig und extrem gehaltvoll und kräftig; Kuhstall deluxe! Salz! Mit Wasser kommen mehr Fruchtaromen hervor;
    • Finish
      Kräftig und wärmend, lang;

    • Nose
      Wow, huge earthy scents. Peat, earth, forest. In addition, of course smoke and if you slide well, there is menthol in the background.
    • Taste
      Again the earthy tones. The menthol is barely to be tasted, but he is there. Despite the solid ABV it is good to drink without water, soft, friendly, but a strong character. Nice and creamy.
    • Finish
      Long finish, that bite sand stays in your mouth.

    notes from whiskyfun :

    Ledaig 1998/2011 (61.2%, Malts of Scotland, sherry butt, cask ref #11010, 258 bottles)
    Many amongst us remember last year’s Ledaig 1998 by MoS, which was a
    tad unlikely yet so excellent. Colour: dark gold. Nose: extremely
    leathery, sooty and farmyardy. It’s like… smoky ink? Glycerine? Or
    distilled lapsang souchong tea? The fumes from Ardbeg’s company car?
    Fresh carbolineum? With water: as usual with these sherried peat
    monsters it’s the gamy side that comes out. Also touches of brand new
    plastic pouch, or even tyre. Mouth (neat): impressively big and
    ‘coherent’ at the same time. Sooty/smoked orange zests sprinkled with
    tar and liquorice liqueur. Ahem. With water: perfect now, sweeter,
    earthier as often, rooty, citrusy and very playful. Water’s best friend.
    Finish: very long, a notch saltier, with some wasabi in the aftertaste.
    Comments: not particular about details but impressively good. Many of
    these youngish Ledaigs from sherry wood are wee miracles in my opinion. SGP:557 - 91 points

    Spicy !!! Something in the nose that I associate with Italian herbs but I can not put my finger on it. Furthermore pesto and fresh mint in the aftertaste. He does need some water.
    Edit: And he needs time. Half an hour later he tastes much better. and also the nose is more balanced. 88-89 after a while in the glass Thanks Hvdree for the sample
