  1. rottendon scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

A very exciting barrel. The saltiness is particularly enjoyable. The alcohol is, as usual, excellently integrated, although not quite as perfect as in some other barrels. The decision not to use this barrel in a batch is completely understandable to me.
    • Nose
      90 90
Immediately after pouring, it is sweet, warm, brown sugar, caramel and a little yeast. After just a few moments, clear oak notes emerge and the nose becomes fuller overall. Shortly afterwards, chocolate and brandy can also be found. A few minutes later, the whole thing becomes quite fruity and now the lid is put on.

After a longer period of standing, the nose is very well balanced, full, creamy and rich, sweetness, acidity, fruit and oak are all present as one unit. Sea buckthorn, chocolate, yeast dumplings, furniture polish, floor wax, barrel acid, brandy, beet syrup, burnt caramel, yeast extract, these are the impressions that come to mind. Complex, if not quite as appetizing as some other bottlings, perhaps a little too acidic and yeasty. But that's complaining at a high level.

When warmed up, there is initially a little more floor wax and a hint of menthol, and it is also a little sweeter overall. As the whiskey gets warmer, it becomes increasingly sweeter and heavier. The warmth of your hand is really good for the whiskey, it now seems much tastier.
    • Taste
      92 92
Initially dark and sweet in the mouth, with a very powerful attack and a good dose of pepper, with a noticeable oak finish. The mouthfeel is heavy and oily, even slightly creamy.

In the second sip there is less pepper, but a little menthol and now a good portion of salt in the mouth. Salted caramel, chocolate, coffee candy and oak with little bitterness and almost no acid. Very drinkable, begs for more.
    • Finish
      91 91
The finish is medium-long, the chest area is pleasantly warmed. Initially with beautiful oak notes, a quite distinct saltiness develops towards the end. This is not affected by a subtle sweetness that accompanies the entire finish. There is also a very light menthol note.

In the second sip, tannins and barrel acidity can be found in the finish, but still subtle.
