Nose

Treacle toffee and prunes. Malt concentrate from a home brew kit. Butter tablet cooking in the pan. Toffee toffee toffee. Yum!

Taste

No change here, the toffee theme continues and it's just delicious.

Finish

It's just so constant. There's no great variety in this dram, but who needs variety when it's this good. The spices come through eventually but you would never take this to be thirty six years old.

Comments

A fabulously rich experience. Lovely whisky

It's better to have drunk it all than never to have drunk at all.

An intense fruitiness with apricot, goji berry and plum. Toffee, vanilla, yellow raisin and leather. Or to summarise it in one word: WOW!

Taste

Goji berry, apricot, leather, bramble, spice, plum, toffee and raisin. Over time also some peat.

Finish

Toffee, goji berry, apricot, peat, chocolate, leather and vanilla.

Bunnahabhain 36 yo 1975/2011 (58%, The Nectar of the Daily Drams and La Maison du Whisky) Five stars Colour: light gold. Nose: this is different, obviously. Less honeyed/jammy and sharper, more precise, more phenolic (well, a little phenolic), and more coastal as well, with these whiffs of sea air and then mint and aniseed. Smoke, tangerines… Becomes more floral after a while, with some lime and orange blossoms. Impeccable! With water: not many changes but we didn’t need any, did we? Mouth (neat): perfect, nervous, phenolic, mentholated and, once again pretty peaty for Bunnahabhain. Develops on bitter oranges, citrons, spearmint… Really complex and beautifully tart. With water: magnificent, all on marmalades and touches of mango chutney, while the unexpected smokiness got quieter. Finish: medium long, with some salt playing with the tip of your tongue and even your lips. Comments: very high class and very assertive Bunny, probably from an excellent refill sherry butt. SGP:552 - 92 points.

A very good Bunnahabhain. Excellent nose, sweet and warming taste and extremely long aftertaste filled with toffee, citrus notes, hot spices and smoke. It has some Japanese notes to it. Really good stuff.

Nose

Mellow, starting very fruity. Mirabelles with notes of caramel and honey. After some time coastal notes, sea spray and linen are coming up with hints of smoke. After twenty minutes or so there are even some weak flowery notes coming up. Nice and pleasant.

Taste

Powerful, warming from deep inside. Rather sweet with honey and toffee but also tannins and notes of black tea. Orange cake, capuccino, a little ginger and surprisingly also hints of smoke. Complex and very tasty - fantastic.

Finish

Long, remains always pleasant.

Comments

Most Bunnas of this age are excellent, so that this one is actually no surprise. Totally pleasant without any weakness.

Nose

This is a very soft nose with hardly any peat at all. I get brown toast, plastered with farm butter, covered with banana slices with some brown sugar on top. Adding some water does not hurt this nose at all.

Taste

It is very soft and silky, lightly spiced and wonderfully (almost too) sweet. Banana once more, but also wine gums and even some white chocolate. Does not need water at all, but what the heck. It makes it even sweeter (did not think it possible), but also a lot sharper.

Finish

The finish is more of the same, but wonderfully long and leaves your mouth very dry.

Comments

If I had tasted this blind, I would have mistaken it for a fruity Speysider. Quite the active cask that bent the spirit to its will. Great stuff!
