Whisky Reviews for Port Ellen 1982 BR
6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.30 points
- Color: pale-ish white wine
Splendid whisky, would drink again ;)
Fruity (apples), iodine, mineral, not very smoky, maritime (sea breeze), great nose
Fruits, more fruits, touch of salt, and fruits again. Splendid
Loooooong and salty, touch of licorice and anise.
- Nose: salt licorice, soft subtle peat smoke, dried cranberry, black currant and candy cane. Some caramel sweetness and burnt sugar as well in the background. Fennel seeds, bay leaf and cracked black pepper with some earl grey tea.
On the palate, sweet and sour, with caramel and citrus. Stong peat smoke, wood, bark, nutmeg, leather and table salt.
Finish: sweet and salt licorice, lingering sweet smoke, pink pepper and some herbal notes are coming forward. Sea grass and crisp bread, cookies with nuts.
Comment: this is one of the most complex whiskies I have ever had. I needs time and patients but wow! Really nice one!

Port Ellen 1982/2007 (46%, Berry Brothers, Berry’s Own Selection, cask #2850) Colour: very pale white wine. Nose: completly different from the Silver Seal, much fruitier and much less tarry and smoky. Rather Caolila-esque (wot?) Apples, sea air and porridge. Not quite the most spectacular PE ever. Mouth: better than on the nose. Stewed fruits, apple compote, salted fish and just a little cardboard. Wee metallic notes (old silver spoon). Finish: long, almondy and very salty. Comments: good Port Ellen but lacks a little consistency. Cask #2469 by the same bottlers and issued in 2007 as well was waaaay better in my opinion (WF92).SGP:456 - 85 points.

Fresh, light nose, fruity and salty. Lime and green apples, seaweed and brine. In between also some vanilla, almonds and grass. Light smoke. F
Firm body. Again the fresh fruit and saltiness stand out. Smoked halibut, seaweed and apples followed by vanilla ginger, liquorice and pepper. Pretty spicy and again a soft smokiness. Very pleasant.
Long and salty finish with citrus and spices.
The last couple of years you could buy Port Ellen 1982/1983 blindly. Not cheap but almost always very good. A couple of years ago it sometimes happened that a sulpherbomb was bottled, especially in the period where this bottle stems from but those times seem to be gone. Perhaps a strickter selection? 89/100
