    A Linkwook that makes a good, very good daily dram.
    • Nose

      A rather shy nose, where you can still feel the influence of Sherry.
      Orange, raisin, walnut, light leather, light eucalyptus.
      Light oak and milk chocolate. Vanilla.
      Slight malabar.

      In the mouth, we start with dark chocolate, cocoa, followed by leather.
      Cherry, blackcurrant, grape skin brandy.
      Soft caramel, pepper, light oak, cloves.
      Light licorice and burnt sugar.

    • Nose
      The first nose of the Linkwood is peppered with stately Sherrynoten. Many red fruits, especially cherries and raspberries, tangerines, abundant orange marmalade, hints of caramel and some malt pour from my glass. In the course of nosing the aroma becomes a little fresher, sweeter and more diverse. Freshly cut apples, marzipan, chocolate and fine oak notes follow. The alcohol (43%) is very well integrated.
    • Taste
      The texture of the 15-year-old Linkwood is pleasantly oily and soft. The entrance is full-bodied and strong. A pinch of freshly ground pepper prances briefly on the tip of the tongue before classic sherry aromas with a nice sweetness flood the palate. Red berries, raisins, plums, dark honey, caramel, abundant orange marmalade, a hint of peach, dark chocolate, nuts, roasted almonds, cloves and old oak notes complete the aromatic variety. Very complex, harmonious and elegant. The palate already creates a subtle bitterness.
    • Finish
      Medium length, sweet-spicy and sherry-stressed. Light and dark fruits sparkle with a nice residual sweetness and lively fruitiness. Orange marmalade, dark honey, dark chocolate, walnuts and almonds bring the Linkwood to a close with beautiful oak notes. On the palate remains a slight dryness and bitterness.

    Nose: Citrus, light flowers, honey, pineapple, orange torch and white chocolate
    Taste: The whisky is generally slightly flat without any deep flavors. On the tongue, noticeable fruits in the form of pineapple, peaches, as well as oranges and vanilla.
    Taste: 85 | 100 - Medium long fruity finish with hints of cinnamon. Generally a dessert item.

    For the Linkwood being something like GM's house bottling, I'm a little disappointed. I promised me more from whisky.

    Actually pleasant, daily dram, but it fogs his main course with too simple grades .... do not misunderstand, .... he is not one-dimensional! But just too easy;)

      Vanilla, malt, and fruity. But very very delicate. Without a stir. No aha effect. Something young oak. He has a lot to offer, but that's too lukewarm and not very intense.

      Actually, exactly what the nose promised. Basically in the right direction with malty fruits in fine light oak but a bit zappliger on the palate.
      But he is in a good mood for his age.

      Medium and little wrong. He already has his options and he uses them too, mainly on the nose. Unfortunately, he did not hold out. Could the 43% be? That's a pity. A solid malt.

    It's pretty good again today. I was surprised that I heard some sulfur (I like it). That did not happen with my last big bottle.

      The sherry is here. I have kirsch. Strawberries with a stalk and some earth on it. Plum cake. From time to time a reminder of sulfur. Then eucalyptus. Hint of juniper berries. Wet wood.
    • Taste
      Initially quite soft but not too watery. Forest honey. Fruit tea with a lot of sugar candy. Again minimal sulfur. Raisins. Raspberry jelly. Orange peel. Now it gets spicier and some pepper comes. Then dark chocolate.
    • Finish
      Baked apple with nuts. Bark, liquorice and spicy oak.

    Everything is subtle about this whisky. The smell slightly fruity; the taste refined and somewhat wood; aftertaste soft and reasonably long.

    Where is the line between a sherry and a whisky? Linkwood 15 is married to Oloroso sherry and this alliance is vivid.

    Bold character. Warm, biting, full of nuttiness. Could it be that one added sherry for lowering a proof? :)

    Another good all-rounder. Easy drinker, easy pleaser. Scores the same as I had it [same batch], a few years ago.

    Complex sherry whisky, light and dark. It is a fine and dry sherry that characterizes the whisky. Very balanced and tasty, and nicely complex for its age. Very good PLV.

      Strawberry, and some cherry, vanilla, caramel, delicate oak, fine sherry, from a dry sherry
    • Taste
      again the red fruits, strawberry, cherry and some orange, soft, caramel, then sherry notes with raisins, nuts, almonds, amaretto.
    • Finish
      medium-long, with oak spice, becoming drier, but it remains a hint of red fruits. Then aftertaste with sherry, raisins and nuts

    An exciting, complex sherry whisky, with both light and dark aromas. He benefits from some time to breathe. The intense oloros are accompanied by the fresh aromas of the nose and oak. nice thing.

      Egg. I can roast immature oranges and something undefined green. Fortunately, it disappears after 5 minutes in the glass and allows me to enjoy reasonable. Orangeat, bitter orange marmalade, oak, old scales, in the second nose freshly mowed grass, honeysuckle, currants. Much better.
    • Taste
      Acid onset, ripe oranges, becomes softer, and honey-sweet, then strong Olorosoten with dried plum, raisins, walnut, almonds, Amaretto.
    • Finish
      Amaretto, mint, bitter almonds, oak, rather dry. Long, spicy aftertaste with amaretto, elderflower and honeysuckle.

      Peppermint chewing gum, tangerine, orange peel, rose, buttered yeast cake, the alcohol is superficial but not intrusive, raspberry jam, rascals, light caramel, caramac, marzipan, amarena cherries, lightly burnt marshmellow, after a while it becomes sweeter and more chocolaty
    • Taste
      Full-bodied, sherry aroma, buttery soft, white pepper, raisins, sultanas, orange-spicy, wild honey, Ricola herb sweet, a little oak, hardly bitterness, it remains the honey note

    a great understated Speyside single malt that has got a strenght character. It can easily compete with other better known Speyside distilleries.

    Nose: Intense sherry nose. Very appley, menthol, creamy oak, sweet red apple, sharp green apple, apple crumble, bit of strawberry, brown sugar, vanilla, lots of honey, bit of pineapple, herbal note- Mint, olive oil?, sweet sherry, oaky tannins, coffee, bit of fruitcake. A little bit of heat.

    Taste: Intense sweetness. Sweet red apple, sharp green apple, sharp unripe pear, bit of cranberry, brown sugar, aged sweet sherry, lots of oak interaction- Old wood and sweet oak, drying spices build, cream, fruitcake.

    Finish: Medium length. Drying sweet oaky spices fade, then sweet sherry kick to end.

    A lovely Speyside malt. Enough character to separate it from the 50 or so other Speyside distilleries.

    Just like the fifteen-year-old Mortlach from G & M, I like the Linkwood as well. In the nose one is almost killed by the sweet sherry. With a little time, however, the nose drifts into slightly spicier followers. The mouth is then dominated by dark fruits and oak. The finish is then a mixture of both.
    • Nose
      The sweet and fruity sherry puffs my nose. It's really sweet with cherry jelly and forest honey. Then come cotton candy, brown sugar and a little caramel. With a little time in the glass then comes a certain base seasoning. A little bit of pepper, oak and cinnamon get out of the glass. The cherry jelly becomes kirsch and it reminds of MonCheri. The alcohol is barely perceptible. After the first sip, it gets a little more woody and spicy.
    • Taste
      It is very soft and silky on the tongue. It gets slightly oily. He just tingles easily. Now there is a mixture of spicy, slightly bitter oak and darker fruit in the mouth. Again pepper, this time with pickled cherries. There are dark forest berries added. It is reminiscent of currant ice cream. In the mouth now much spicier than in the nose.
    • Finish
      The finish is short to medium long and nice and warm. It's sweet at first, then bitter on the palate. Again, I easily feel bitter notes of wood. After the initial sweetness and seasoning comes a decent portion of pepper. The palate stays spicy with chocolate and oak.

    This one is tricky. We found these GM bottlings vary greatly batch to batch.

    I got lucky. Very pronounced character. A real bang for your buck. In fact one of my favorite drams ever!

    Eye: Amontillad minus. Irregular beads. Nose: Gently hot. Briny butter, raisins, orange peel, oregano, pepper, hay. No convincing smoke. Mouth: Slight burn in the nostrils. Squeaky. Raisin. Sweetened ginseng tea. A zest of “boerenkool” (a Dutch recipe of mashed potato and kale): creamy butter, nutmeg. More the sum of its parts. Finish: Warm and fuzzy. Coating. Chili milk chocolate. Sweet in harmony with a gentle bitter.

    A very nice nose, great flavors on the tongue, the finish a round thing. A very nice malt.

      Fruity refreshing nose. At first, ripe peaches and apricots dominate. After a while come oak notes and mild spices that color the fruit notes darker and lead to berry. The smell of a damp forest floor. Vanilla is floating above the fruits.
    • Taste
      In the beginning sweet malt and orange marmalade. Also on the tongue is vanilla, which mixes beautifully with the malt. Fresh bread dough, old oak planks. Freshly tanned leather. Honey. The aromas are varied and beautifully matched. After a while you will find a fine herbal note.
    • Finish
      The finish is medium with notes of orange leaves, malt and old oak.

    Bonus dram from Nick for comparison against the Linkwood 25yo WB
    N: Not to much difference in profile by comparison to the 25yo. This younger edition has a more youthful vibrancy but less complexity, much less. Mainly translates as a vanilled, gingery, sugary nose but by comparison to the 25, potency it may have but it can only dream of the depth and detail of its older siblings.
    T: Again, similar profile, more edgy but still very tasty
    F: Shares some of the dank wood notes. The vanillas herald a lovely sweet>bitter-sour conclusion
    C: By comparison, the conclusion is clearly evident - its potency vs detail, but both are lovely. Currently £43 at TWE [Dec ’15]

    WITHOUT WATER:

    Nose: Fresh and fragrant with heavy Sherry influences. More delicate fruity

    notes develop.

    Palate: Heavy sweetness, very smooth and creamy, with a delicate spicy edge.

    Some nutty influences - brazil nuts.

    WITH WATER:

    Nose: Fresh and fragrant, highly floral - some violet notes. Sweetness is

    present with a subtle charred oak edge.

    Palate: Mouth warming - hint of ground black pepper, well balances and sweet.

    Body: Medium.

    Finish: Medium.

    Full, rich, intense, deep, strongly sherried and all that; no wonder, it reminds me of good GlenDronach for some reason. Quality too. Love it.

      Heady, rather piquant smell, dense, hot, muskiness, fructose, apricot, dried apricots, horseradish, ginger root, dried fig, dates, caramel apple. Oops... erasing rubber (thinly), earthy/putty-like note, honey, plum paste jam/prune butter, apricot jam.
    • Taste
      Bright and lively, but supple, with a slender figure. Toffee chew, toasted oak cask, hearty (Bajan?) rum note, ginger, peppery blast wave, cloves, more toffee, milk chocolate (intensely), cappuccino/mocha.
    • Finish
      Enduring, somewhat nippy, sharp (just right), spicy-dry, a trace of sherry (Amontillado?), oil cake, soy sauce, dates, chocolate pudding pie, fizzy viscosity of cola, soya-based milk, almonds.

    Solid mid-age sherry malt that does everything right. Imagine a slightly bolder Macallan 12 SO (age-/abv-wise). Recommended!

      Initially, there is strong old-style sherry and oak. Moderately spirity.
      Very nutty and bold, with hints of flint and earth, even with only 43%
      ABV its quite condensed. It turns remarkably sweet and chocolaty after a
      few minutes.
    • Taste
      Spicy sweetness with malt, black pepper, and caramel. Oily texture.
    • Finish
      Medium-long. Very spicy and vivid. Becomes dryer in the finish.

    The nose is great and shows what it could have been. Alas the reduction and/or the E150 killed it. It`s not bad, but could have been better...
