Difficult to score. It's almost very good but there are some flaws for me, namely a cardboard note and the whole doesn't feel harmonious or elegant. The peat is fairly old-style, reminding me a little bit of peaty pre-war Old Angus and 10yr Ballantine's bottled mid 30s. But it doesn't quite work with the distillate or PX, in my opinion. 85 - 86. But I'll try it again in the future and see if I like it more.

Peaty. Sweet, earthy, oily peat. Some camphor, eucalyptus, lots of smoked barley and sweet peppers. A note akin to oily batter. Pine needles, machine oils, cold ashes, salt, and fresh plasters. Quite an interesting peat character. The peat hides the rest of the malt, which struggles at first, but manages to add gentle notes of peach, candle wax, and butterscotch. With time it begins to become more balanced, and a bit more recognisable as Dornoch. But it's a bit too inharmonious for me to like it more.

Sweet, and the peat is less dominating now. Rubber tires, peppers, mushrooms, cold ashes, fresh plasters, and pines. A bit mineral, some peach tea, vanilla, hints of new wood with a slight cardboard note. The PX is a bit more noticeable than on the nose. Butterscotch.

Vegetal peat. Some iodine, quite earthy, forest floor, mushrooms, plasters. The PX is more pronounced, bringing out rubber, a few dried fruits, and a sherried sweetness. Candle wax, menthol, a few old digestive biscuits (mild cardboard). Quite nice, before it becomes too cardboardy.
