Paradoxically, although really powerful (to the limit of too much), the whole is also very soft. Excellent pure, magnificent with water.
    • Nose
Really powerful nose, seems oily and syrupy behind. Woody on the pine, fruity on the prunes. Burnt caramel whose fine smoke is fresh. Chocolate and pecan nuts.
    • Taste
Very oily mouthfeel. We're not going to lie to each other, the alcohol stings a bit, but the aromatic intensity is such afterwards that we excuse it. Melted chocolate with pine syrup. Coppery oranges, pecan nuts with caramel. Dates. We stay on the same frame with water, while calming the bite.
    • Finish
Long and burning finish. Sweetly bitter smoke. Tobacco and meat.

Nose: a bit reserved at the beginning (just check its strength), though potential is great. Lots of sherry, bacon and ham, roasted nuts and chocolate, fruit jam.

Taste: knocks you out at 63% strength, extremely dense but not harsh, just bites into your tongue leaving tobacco, sweet orange, coffee, salt and peat.

Finish: ve-e-ery long, tobacco, herbs, nuts and touch of peppermint stay with you for ages...

Overall: I'd call it a gem. If compared with 20 yo I'd say that single cask nose is notch weaker (20 yo gives it all from the very beginning, here you need time and patience), though taste and finish are immense.

The nose is finally set back from the mouth and the finish.
I think this dram can be divided, the sweet intensity on the palate will not appeal to everyone.
    • Nose
      90 90
Superb powerful nose of big Sherry.
Oranges and zest, Christmas spices, cardamom, fresh mint.
      Milk chocolate, vanilla, honey. Toffee.
A little woody, on the fir tree.
      Very light cold smoke.
    • Taste
      91 91
In the mouth it is incredibly oily and aromatic.
The alcohol is very well integrated, we do not smell the 63%.
We have a riot of crystallized fruit. It's very sweet.
Orange, lemon, strawberry, candy, caramel, bitter dark chocolate.
And also more secondary and tertiary aromas: barbecue smoke. Very light bacon. Wooded.
    • Finish
      91 91
Long finish on the barbecue, its smoke, peat, tobacco. It's meaty, smoked. Then come the fruits, sweeter than in the mouth.

Very powerful, quite complex, enjoyable - very good
    • Nose
      91 91
Lots of dried fruits, fruit cake, plenty of hazel nuts, crystalized fruits, little toffee, chocolate, hints of vanilla - very good
    • Taste
      90 90
Very punchy, oily, chocolaty, sirupy, subtle sweetness, spices, nutmeg, new wood - still very good
    • Finish
      89 89
Long, burning, more chocolate, spices, hints of cigars - water recommended

    nectar!
fruits in stewed caramel, vanilla, spices, herbs with some menthol and gentian, some dry wood, some toffee.
    • Nose
earthy, then bark of oranges, caramelized sweet, and trace of dry smoke.
    • Taste
an explosion of concentrates in the mouth, a little tannic, almost rough, then candied fruits appear, a few dry but balmy herbs.
return pastry, unctuous on liquid salted caramel, fondant.

Wonderful ratios of sweet fruits, peat, spices and sour citruses. Professional work from Japan. 90/91.
    • Nose
      90 90
Candied orange peel, mango, salted caramel, coconut, peat and earth.
    • Taste
      91 91
Powerful. Peaty, fruity. Chocolate, strawberry, menthol and lime. Touch of tobacco and ash.
    • Finish
      90 90
      Long. Peat and tobacco.

Reminds me of a sweet, young, juicy Caol Ila whih is no bad thing.

A very good whisky, the last Yoichi 20 year I had was also a good one.

With water the peat is more pronounced on the nose but more citrus and cream is in the mix. The palate is even juicier with the same fruitiness.

    Good sweet lingering finish.

This has just the right amount of sherry and peat, lovely stuff.
    • Nose
Quite prickly on orange sherbet, candied fruits, caramel wafers, salted caramel, it gets less aggressive after a few minutes . After a while there are some lovely Turkish delight  notes.
    • Taste
That has some power and massive peat that I was not expecting and the orange that the nose promised is there with some fudge.

My initial impression is very good, the peat is strong but there is this lovely fruitiness mixed in with it

Neat this is lip smacking, with Turkish delight still there, milk chocolate.
    • Finish
      Long, sweet & peaty.

A cask from winning 1991 vintage, you can't go wrong with it!

The best Yoichi that I have tried so far. And I know
where a bottle can still be had for around 200 EUR. Think I will grab it.
    • Nose
The prickly nose contains peat and silt, but it is the
      sweetness that is victorious here. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Oranges
and lemon, stone fruits (apricots and even some mango) and then some vanilla
and earth. But also roasted almonds and sweet & sour sauce!
Caramel. Chocolate. Coconut. It keeps developing.
      Complex little animal.
    • Taste
Fiery and creamy on the palate with a big kick from
both the spices and the high alcohol percentage. The citrus from the nose is joined by grapefruit. Some menthol. Then the
peat returns. It goes up and down. The second sip
offers nuts and chocolate. What a balance.
    • Finish
The finish is long, warm and elegant.

    Wonderful. Another Japanese gem.
    • Nose
Massively concentrated fruit compote. Tannins, bog myrtle, slight caramel, smoky jam.
    • Taste
Incredible intensity, full on tobacco spread with strawberry jam. Sugar sparkles and a little barbecue sauce with water.
    • Finish
Chewing tobacco that makes the mouth water forever. Barley sugared magic.
