Situated in Kildalton Parish, the founder died from burns
sustained by falling into a vat of pot ale. Between 1954 and 1972 the
distillery was owned and managed by a woman, Bessie Williamson. She
expanded the distillery to six stills in 1968/69 and a further still was
installed in 1974. It retains its own floor maltings and produces one
of the most strongly flavoured of all malts. The barrel that this was
bottled from has given a gold colour to the spirit which has lost none
of its coastal origins, iodine and carbolic at first nosing. At full
strength the taste is of white pepper and is very smoky but with a
pleasant sweetness to compensate. Water highlights the burntness but it
remains creamy, muscular and satisfying. http://www.smws.co.uk/whisky/Creamy,_muscular_and_satisfying.html
