From the Demons & Ghosts series by ADOS, a Distilled at South Islay. At the Brühler Whisky House, you can now distinguish between South Islay and Islay South Coast. South Islay could be Lagavulin, Islay South Coast more likely Ardbeg. So here it's probably Lagavulin, which goes well with the green demon lady. The whisky was finished in Banyuls Cask after initial ex-bourbon maturation. Let's see if French sweet wine goes with the South Islay smoke.

    • Nose
Here the smoke is sweeter and warmer than in the 14-year-old South Islay we tried before. But it is not too sweet or even sticky, which can happen with ADOS. This is a sweet wine, but not sugary or even sticky, like Sauternes sometimes can be. There are also tart tannins here.
    • Taste
This whisky is not overtly sweet either. It has an oily basic character that feels sweet, but is well balanced by tannins and smoke. Behind the smoke and the bitter aromas, red wine gums unfold, but remain more of a hint that accompanies the smoke, which is warm and strong, with light scum aromas that remain in the background. The whisky has a dirty aspect that is due to the smoke and no sulphur note, which always calms me down after bad experiences with ADOS. Here, the sweet wine content is wonderfully counteracted by bitter aromas and the smoldering kelp stalks in the fire only come through at the edge. A few drops of water are good and open up the whisky, drawing out the sweetness more.
    • Finish
This South Islay also finishes dry, but also has a residue of thickened wine on the palate, which is more of a feeling than a taste.

Another lovely whisky, typically Islay, independent, mature at 16 years without being too charged. South Islay is actually a safe bet at Brühler Whiskyhaus, these whiskies often suit my taste. I find fewer failures here than with other bottlings. And somehow it actually suits the demonic green lady, who is quite charming, even if you don't really want to meet her.
