  1. dramspotter did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

SMWS Tasting Notes: This distillery was established in 1828, and is generally recognised by connoisseurs as hugely impressive and distinctive malt. Their production methods are idiosyncratically traditional, and they also have their own maltings. The only negative point is that there is not enough to go round! This example is relatively pale, and the first impression is milky, with vegative notes like green ivy. Then comes fresh cooking oil, or peppered olive oil, with the delicate fruit of one of those fromage frais pots. This fruity character continues, 'like walking through a fruit and veg market', with melon skins, new Geraniums, and artichokes mentioned. Finally the peating element is apparent, in the form of pink Germolene. The taste at cask strength is pink! The dram seems to tread a skillful line between phenols and vanilla: blancmange, cream soda, and strawberry split ice lollies form the sweet part. With water the ivy returns, along with a hint of bazooka joes. This whisky improves with time, and although no clouds parted and no angels descended from heaven, it was yet again a pleasure to try a whisky from this fascinating distillery.
