  1. Archer scored this whisky 95 points Connoisseur

Before the first sip my nose was at 93/100, after the first sip I had to correct myself a little bit upwards.
One of the best old Redbreasts of recent years. And it is amazing how the nose develops over the course of the tasting, both in terms of oxygen contact and the changed characteristics after the first sip. A real dream dram.

The longer you allow this Redbreast to come into contact with oxygen, the more intense the nose becomes and the more aromas emerge. You can let it stand for 15 minutes - the wait is worth it!
On the surface, old leather, dried plums, figs, raisins, blueberries, blackcurrants. The fruity notes are surrounded by a fine spicy note, with turmeric, cardamom and cloves leading the way. Once you have penetrated the fruit and spices, you come across a layer of marzipan, nougat, almonds - and in the background you can also make out tropical fruits, which will hopefully become even more apparent on the tongue.

And yes, the tropical fruits are there. And how. They are the first impression the tongue gets of the whiskey: mango, passion fruit, banana, guava, papaya. Oh yes... But since dried plums, raisins and figs can also be found here, the tropical fruit feeling is not completely over the top.
The first sip has now also changed the nose: away from the dried fruits, towards the tropical aromas. Fascinating how this can change again and again.
It is creamy and oily on the tongue, almost syrupy. You can't really speak of classic single pot still spiciness here, in any case the spice notes have largely dissipated during the at least 27 years of maturation, or the spices have combined with the other aromas to such an extent that they can no longer be identified separately. Liquid caramel, toffee, nougat, marzipan, almond chocolate.
    • Finish
      94 94
Even a small sip (~0.5cl) is enough for an incredibly long finish. Nothing is dry or woody here, not at all. It simply stays exactly as it started on the tongue and fades away at some point. Until then, however, I have to really control myself not to pour it again - you just don't want to let it fall off your tongue.
