This is pure pleasure whisky, assertive and tasty, mingling the sourness of fresh fruits with the softness of freshly baked cakes. The best you can get from a middle-aged refill sherry Speysider. A nice Glen Keith?

    • Nose
Starts slightly grassy before unfolding on much nicer buttery and fruity notes. Becomes quite spectacular and mouth watering now, with lots of lemon drops and slightly unripe pineapple on top of an appetizing sponge cake. A touch of light honey. And quite some alcohol for the balance.
    • Taste
I like it! Very vibrant and zesty, with lots of fresh fruits (mainly freshly squeezed orange juice). Juicy and creamy. Hot it is (50% ?) but never burning
    • Finish
Long and velvety, it fades away on a light honey softness.

    Benriach 20y 1991/2011, 51.6%, Malts of Scotland, bourbon barrel # 32283, 251 bottles
Fresh, grassy nose with a slightly mineral touch. Fresh mowed grass, when it was a bit wet (yes, try this summer to drive your grass when it is completely dry). Honey, gooseberries, raspberries, apricots, butter and some mint. Hay (the grass gradually becomes dry), heather and even very light smoke in the background. Heather and light smoke, a combination that you often encounter. Very enjoyable. Sturdy, creamy mouthfeel. Fruity taste (mandarin, lime), with here also the honey and the grassy. Heather again. More oak, slightly drying. Ginger. Medium finish on citrus fruit and herbs. I find this surprisingly tasty whisky, especially on the nose. 87/100 http://onversneden.com/2011/09/18/benriach-20y-1991-malts-of-scotland/

Evokes me successively a Clynelish of the 90s then a rum ... Could it be a rum finish ?? In any case, it has the merit of being original, well done and long in the mouth Tasted blind in the frame of WDTS
    • Nose
sulfur notes at the beginning. Then, the dominant aroma reminds me of banana-shaped Haribo sweets. There follows vanilla, spices, malt and shortbread. In a way, quite typical of the Highlands
    • Taste
Atypical enough. Very expressive and sweet. We feel a lot Haribo bananas. It looks almost like a rum !!
    • Finish
      long on fruity hints

  7. Jeep51 scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
A mixture of cereals, fruit cake, lots of vanilla, almond paste and solvent notes. At aeration, more floral notes as well as dried coconut. Rather complex but I do not stick
    • Taste
Creme brulee, bitter almond, vanilla, vanilla and vanilla.
    • Finish
On almonds and vanilla. Pretty short.
