This bottling isn't anything to rave about, but the way it beautifully combines the character of the old distillation with its unique notes, offering a delightful experience, is enough reason to like this whisky, in my opinion. Smooth, enjoyable.

Price-performance ratio: N/A (from RRP), Low (from current price)
Would I buy it again?: At these prices, unfortunately I wouldn't, but it's worth trying, of course.
    • Nose
      86 86
Orange and grape jams. Mandarin juice and pine honey. A noticeable wax and more pronounced caramel. Sweet red plum. A slight tropicality with ripe mango. Tobacco, a slightly rustic side with whole-grain bread crust. Orange fruity candies. Persimmon, a slight earthiness, clayiness, perhaps minerality. Leather and dark chocolate, perhaps toasted bread crust. Blackberries and leafiness. The earthiness increases over time. Perfumery and slight floral notes. Grape paste. Not the most complex whisky in the world, but complex enough. A pleasant nose.
    • Taste
      85 85
On the palate, a slightly below-average sweetness. Plenty of tobacco and clay. Earthiness is still evident. Slight minerality. Blackberry jam. Persimmon is again prominent. Red apple compote. Cooked red plums. A body that is slightly below average, if not medium. Cinnamon. Jujube. Leather and rancio. A slightly date-like aspect. Dried mango and dark forest fruits. Walnut with its skin on. Not as complex on the palate as on the nose. A little weak, though not unpleasant.
    • Finish
      84 84
A light herbaceous, fresh, cakey herbal note in the background. Very light dried thyme in the finish. Mandarin peel. Retronasal. Very light playdough and a nice non-engineered old distillery funk with a light ash. Medium intensity, medium-short length finish. Light fresh mint in the background. The clay-like side continues to the very end. Not of exceptional quality, but decent.
