1104-ISLAY STORM SINGLE MALT SCOTCH Whisky 40%
...as we already know, you can drink anything... but why bother? If someone's looking to start their Islay journey, this bottle won't be a good choice. It might be off-putting. Even if the aromas are a bit appealing, the taste is disappointing. Despite the presence of a significant amount of "ingredients," it's not entirely "well-balanced." I remember my first encounter with Islay; it was a relatively inexpensive blend, Islay Mist 40%, and it was a good start. It was strange, but digestible, and it left me wanting more. Islay Storm is a single malt, but it would have put me off... But that's just my opinion.
    • Nose
...a rather intense, dirty peat smoke. Slightly sweet, smoky. The longer you linger in the glass, the smoke becomes a "smoke." The intensity doesn't last long. A bit of barbecue with that smoky BBQ sauce. I put it aside to become friends with the empty glass – more smoked meat here, ham, gammon, etc. A hint of cold grill, ash, and unburned wood. Somewhere in the distance, something sour, unpleasant. I return to the full glass – now (and some time has passed), the liquid has become more delicate, sweeter, with a slight fruity note. A sea breeze and brine have appeared. Green, dried nori. I like this kind of atmosphere, so all these aromas suit me personally.
    • Taste
...sweet, spicy, salty, and smoky. It creates a creamy yet slightly watery impression. The smoke is present, but it's not overly flavorful, somehow strange, dry, and sour. It comes on like green nuts. Over time, it reminds me of something from the medicine cabinet—like a crushed pill that no one likes to take. The next attempt begins identically to the first. The momentary sweetness immediately turns into a bitterness that isn't very pleasant to the palate. There's a pinch of herbs heated in a pan. Added to that is a sort of aftertaste... of iodine, or antiseptic gauze. Overall: salty, sour, a bit citrusy, and lacking... a finish. It's all quite flat, with plenty of everything but no flavor.
    • Finish
...medium, smoky, bitter, sour, and a bit salty. There's no pleasant heat here, but rather a sharp burn of undigested spirit. A pinch and astringency at the very end. Nothing special, really.

Dry, peaty, and with a hint of salt. Simply excellent.
