Craigellachie, 15 years, Tawny Port Finish. Caves de Murça are wine producers in the north of Portugal that supply barrels to Murray McDavid. This Craigellachie was stored in a Tawny Port cask for the finish. The color is golden with a reddish tint. It is an exclusive bottling for whisky.de as part of the company's 30th anniversary bottling.

    • Nose
On the nose, the whisky offers a base of stewed fruits with strawberries and a lot of vanilla. The whisky is sweet, with some tarragon added to the sweet fruit. There are also Katje's tropical fruits. Initially the whisky starts with rough and racy notes, which become milder over time in the glass. The alcohol is not noticeable on the nose and the aroma remains on the sweet side. There is shortbread with butter, strawberry jam and some dark honey.
    • Taste
The taste is the sweet fruit compote, but then the bitter, woody component with dark chocolate and spicy, slightly dirty aromas sets in, which is a mixture of the funk caused by the worm tubs and the wood notes. There may also be a sulfur component here, which is caused by the barrel. The whisky has a cocoa note with spices such as cardamom and cinnamon. The fruits are less present in taste than in smell, they are more concentrated, the strawberry tends towards small, wild strawberries.
    • Finish
The whisky is definitely on the barrel-heavy side with woody, bitter flavors that linger in the mouth. There is the funk note that harmonizes well with the wood.

A Craigellachie who, at 15 years old, has a decent age that leaves an impression. The whisky is spicy, sometimes I thought about traces of sulfur that don't come from the Worm Tub funk, but that integrate well into the overall aroma. The 15 years have a spicy depth with concentrated, not too sweet fruits. It's delicious and will be available in early 2024 for just under €90.
