0992- GLENDRONACH 18 yo ALLARDICE HIGHLAND SINGLE MALT SCOTCH Whisky 46%
...it must be admitted that this is a decent whisky. After tasting the liquid, you can overlook the rather uniform aromas. The flavors and finish make up for everything. Well done, a very drinkable distillate. It was meant to be sherry-like and it is, it was meant to be wine-like and it is. You can enjoy a glass for the sheer pleasure of it.
    • Nose
...there's no debate here, this is sherry, meaning everything that goes with sherry – dried fruit of all sizes and colors. Plum jam with a touch of grated lemon zest. After my recent sherry adventures, this no longer impresses me. I check the empty one – and the fruity sweetness manages to dance with fruity tartness and a delicate acidity. A bit of fig, dates, fermented and ripe pineapple. Still sherry. I return to the full one – the alcohol is nicely covered by fruity sweetness, barely caressing the nostrils. Even the barrel aroma tries to break through and make its presence known – but it fails miserably. A typical sherry bomb. A bit lacking in aromas, but all in all… if you're going to have sherry, this is it. Very pleasant, though monotonous in its reception.
    • Taste
...it's sweet and yet quite barrel-aged, oaky, and tannic. The sweetness is interwoven with bitterness. Spicy
Warming spices, it tries to offset this excessive barrel-like quality. It reminds me a bit of pickled ginger and garlic in brine, which has completely lost its flavor. Time for a second try—nothing changes, although the distillate shows it's not as mild as the nose promised. It has a bite, like a hint of dark chocolate with chili flakes and a touch of sweet paprika. A light nutty aftertaste and a winey sourness emerge. There's more of everything in the flavors here than in the nose.
    • Finish
...it must be admitted that it's long. Not so sweet anymore, more winey and tart. A spoonful of dark, melted chocolate with a spicy touch, and all of this with an undertone of barrel-aged oak. Adequate to the aromas and flavors.
