  1. glen efze scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

A Craigellachie bottled by Duncan Taylor for the Whisky Druid. Fortunately, the whisky did not mature in Octaves, like so many Duncan Taylor bottlings, but in Sherry Butt. The color is dark gold, but not overly dark. No idea if it was a full maturation or a finish.

    • Nose
On the nose, the slightly dirty character of the Craigellachie mixes nicely with the fruits of the sherry. The fruits have a slight bitterness of pear peel, which is not annoying but is a good complement to ripe raspberries and blackberries. The fruit aroma is underlined with spice, herbs, wood and ripe grains.
    • Taste
The taste first has a cherry candy that starts sweet, then menthol freshness unfolds. A few drops of water make the alcohol a little milder, but the freshness remains. It comes with caramel that was stored in a wooden box, but the wood is subtle and rather fresh. A few bitter grapefruit peels add to the taste; they are no longer completely fresh and have fallen onto the dusty ground.
    • Finish
The funk that is typical of Craigellachie remains, the grapefruit peels that are no longer fresh and a bitter chocolate note.

The Whisky Druid received a wonderful Craigellachie that has matured well and has clear sherry without being dominated by the cask. The Craigellachie character comes through well and goes well with the Sherry Butt. A beautiful whisky from a distillery that is increasingly becoming one of my favorite distilleries. At the beginning of 2024, the whisky will still be available to buy in shops for between €76 and €85.
