You either like the old DT BMs (from the 80's) or you don't like them! If someone doesn't like his(her) just let me know :-)

28 years in barrel, what will be the first surge of olfactory aromas. Excited and curious, we open the bottle.

And there it is, the hoped-for lavender/violet scent - the soapiness :-)
    • Nose
      Lavender fragrance, salty, mineral, sweet
      a whiff of smoke
and - despite 28 years in the barrel - hardly any wood
and - the 53.5% vol. Alcohol is wonderfully integrated (no stinging in the nose).

      So that's a typical snoop.

So now it's time to warm up the fine drop in the glass - and keep your nose in the glass to inhale the fine aromas. The metallic (mineral) rises and the mouth becomes watery. The sweetness and saltiness contrast beautifully - vanilla, honey, lavender, sea breeze, and a hint of farmy (just call it that - stable smell).
The drool in my mouth runs so hard that I can no longer hold back and take the first sip.
    • Taste
Wow, sparkling mineral/salty and - there it is.
The steam boiler aroma I was hoping for (my whisky brother Axel coined the term - and yes, that's exactly what it is).
Vanilla mixes with saltiness and sweetness. Lavender, heather, spices (a bit of pear?), the hint of smoke (but really just a hint). seaweed, and mineral/salty/sweet again. Soapy lavender perfume fills the throat and settles on the tongue.
      The sparkling mineral note dominates.
The wood - despite being 28 years in the barrel - is amazing in the background.
Yes - over time it becomes smooth/oily in the mouth - you don't want to swallow at all.
    • Finish
The wood notes appear a little stronger - but not dominating at all. Saltiness (sea breeze) remains in balance with honey/vanilla in the mouth. the steam boiler aroma pushes through (mineral/metallic) and becomes dominant.
Despite the strength of the cask, the mouth does not feel overstrained, on the contrary, the desire for another sip grows stronger. Don't let this great experience slip away.

Conclusion: The comparison to the 18er BM from DT (also 17er, 23er, 25er) - there is none. They are all delicious!
