Tasted against a Tormore 1995 from Jack Wiebers (WB152775). Good PLV for lovers of pure bourbon barrel aging. Alcohol is integrated first-class. Would actually not recommend diluting due to the flattened taste!
    • Nose
      87 87
Not nearly as light and floral as the 95. In addition to pear and vanilla, it also has a certain barrel char note. It's like you caramelized a creme brulee a little too long. But the longer I smell this dram, the more this note recedes and the vanilla dominates. The alcohol is excellently integrated. Without having drunk a dram before, it is not noticeable in the nose. Water gives the smell a grassy touch. Strange, the dram feels less complex but more intense.
    • Taste
      87 87
Quite spicy without water but completely bearable. The dram can actually be enjoyed on its own. Nice lasting combination of pear and vanilla. Plus apple, oak and nut. It flattens quickly with water. Gets a little dustier. Since this is a sample tasting, this could also be due to the bottle. However, the OBF is nowhere near as strong or balanced as the Tormore 1995. The taste also shows a nicer fruity note.
    • Finish
      86 86
Without water, medium-long finish with oak and pepper. The fruit note has now decreased significantly. Water intensifies the finish. It becomes more warming and swaps its spice for a recurring pear note.
