    The whisky is over aged!!
If you want wild mushroom flavor in your glass, here you go.
32 year old Ardbeg from 1967 Ok, but...
I was glad I got rid of the bottle!!!
Don't buy for this ridiculous price!

[February, 2019] The two Glenscoma bottlings of Ardbeg vintage 1967 are (most probably) cask sharings with Douglas Laing (WB id 5574 and 5563) as Scoma sourced a lot of bottlings from DL around this time. Douglas Laing released three 1967 Ardbegs with 49.0% (the best of the pack) and two rather chequered ones (that they shared with Scoma) of 47.5% and 43.1%. So I take the chance to do a review of this strange beast...

...what it is, indeed! Sadly, there is almost no Ardbeg aroma or flavour left and this cask was bottled at least five years too late. Both on the palate and during the finish the tannins dominate and turn this dram into a rather bitter-drying experience. This is a collectors' item only - I do not recommend to open a bottle at today's ridiculous price points...
    • Nose
      90 90
The colour is burnished and the nose offers a nice old style sherry profile with lots of fruits, liquorice, herbs and spices but no peat at all. After a significant time of breathing some shy peaty aromas pop up as do some grassy notes. I cannot detect any of the fine Ardbeg trademark aromas - this could be any malt...
    • Taste
      87 87
The taste is very dry on all sorts of bitter flavours - dark chocolate, green tea, herbs, tobacco and ashes. The peat comes very late and stays rather shy throughout the taste. Again, not much of the Ardbeg left in this profile. Water releases rubbery aromas in the nose and flattens the taste quickly, so forget about it.
    • Finish
      85 85
The dram arrives warming but not coating in the mouth with a significant bitter feeling from heavy woods (tannins at work). The finish is long and even more drying-bitter than the taste. Some minor coffee notes pep it up a little - nevertheless, this cask was bottled way too late so the tannins took complete control. So sad, as the sherry was really beautiful.
