  1. glen efze scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Ardmore is one of my underrepresented whiskys, so far I somehow lack access to this distillery, although I like peated whiskys. The Brühl whisky house has bottled an Ardmore in the A Dream of Scotland series, which was then matured in a Moscatel sherry cask. The color is golden yellow and the smoke is right on the nose when pouring.

    • Nose
The question of whether there is smoke here or not does not arise: there is smoke here. Not an iodinated Islay smoke, but a nice warm fire smoke with a sweet background. Behind the smoke the whisky is sweet, with malty notes of caramel and aromas of white peaches and grape must, perhaps some white wine gums or gummy bears. The alcohol can be felt - but not smelled and remains hidden behind the smoke as a cooling element.
    • Taste
The whisky is smoky - but it's a smooth smoke that's more reminiscent of sun-heated wood than smoldering beach fires. Then there is a sweet malt candy, block malt with roasted aroma, sweet grape must, also in the taste a little peach aroma, peach gum from Haribo without the acid. However, despite the water, the alcohol here is a bit too spicy.
    • Finish
Yes, there remains smoke - but it also remains inconspicuous, despite the smoke. The whisky leaves sweet smoke aromas, burnt caramel. But it doesn't leave the Islay feeling of only being able to taste the next unpeated whisky after a two-day break...

Ardmore will not become a favorite whisky with this bottling either. The smoke is ok - but somehow the distillate lacks the interesting note that could make it stand out. The whisky is smoky - but it has no rough edges, the fire stays well in its oven. But the alcohol is a bit too spicy.
