  1. Maltimex scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Yes, let's not talk about the price... but I really couldn't resist the barrel combination and a young Ben Nevis.
I write the notes during the first tasting, after the malt has had time to breathe in about 15 minutes; no water addition.

Yes, here is a Ben Nevis in the glass - the malt comes out of the glass quite heavy with light beeswax and underlying bitter almond notes. The aromas of the two barrels, the 1st fill Oloroso Butts and the 2nd fill Port Pipe harmonize perfectly in the nose: pleasant sweetness, acacia honey, light strawberry notes, gooseberries, tannins - cedar wood - and sherry notes combine wonderfully with the strong malt. The alcohol carries the aromas very well and is never intrusive.
    • Taste
      91 91
At first, the whisky glides cautiously onto the tongue, only to then unfold almost explosively. Beeswax, bitter almonds, oak and a hint of strawberry jam combine with or through the strong alcohol to create a complex play of aromas. Already at this point, hints of espresso and hazelnut make their way. A slight acidity underscores the impressions very well; The malt wonderfully occupies the entire mouth.
    • Finish
      90 90
The finish is very long and reminiscent of a much older malt - 15+ years for me. Waxy with espresso aromas and spicy oak, the Ben Nevis lingers on the tongue and in the entire mouth. Is it strong because it has aged surprisingly well and the cask combination is just good, or because it is so young? Probably an excellent mix of both!
