    Another very good Annandale.
This is a great new distillery whose young bottlings keep convincing me. Of course they work with intensity there to compensate for the short maturation time, but they always manage that the intense cask influence doesn't totally overwhelm the distillate and don't serve over-finished boards from wet casks.

Anyone who knows an Amarone with its intense dark grapes will recognize the barrel influence here and still be amazed at how well it blends into the distillate without taking over the dominance.
The sweetness of the young distillate is there and is more reminiscent of young bourbon maturation with lots of barley sugar.
There is also a lot, but not too much dry and spicy wood, again without dominance. Then a lot of fruit, which doesn't seem so red wine-heavy at all, but is more reminiscent of cherries, plum jam, strawberries and currants.

The alcohol is really very well integrated for the key data. Everything seems very harmonious, round and almost mild - which is really difficult when you try to give a young distillate some character through the influence of the barrel.
    • Taste
      87 87
The palate starts off rather dry and a bit woody, but then quickly becomes pleasantly sweet and not quite as fruity.
The aromas are rather simple, but still distinctive due to the cask strength.

The alcohol pushes something and here you can no longer completely hide the young age.
With water it quickly becomes too thin and breaks down a bit, so better leave it out and discover the whisky pure and authentic.
    • Finish
      87 87
The mouthfeel is slightly oily and testifies to a clean and smooth distillate. It gets a little dry at the back and is very limited in development.
Nevertheless, this is one of the young whiskys that I like better at cask strength.

The finish is perhaps medium-long, but also a bit sharp and characterized by alcohol - which is quite normal given the key data.
