    Even without smoke and sherry influence, the single malt from ''Westfalian'' is convincing, even if it appears rather reserved and quiet. The hearty malt character and the ripe banana that is otherwise so common were exchanged here for fine pastry notes with light fruits. I like this style too!
    • Nose
      Needs a little time to develop, floral and fruity, peach and pineapple garnished with a hint of orange zest, gooseberries, apple blossoms, hibiscus, hints of beeswax, orange blossom honey, clean barley for a juicy grain base, crumble cake with canned apricots, the mild oak lingers in the background and releases with access to air increasingly vanilla, stronger sniffing stirs up dry wood dust, lemongrass and ginger powder
    • Taste
      Apple pie and orange sorbet provide a sweet start with subtle sour tingling moments, followed by dry oak, strong aromas of wood, toasty and only very slightly bitter, liquorice, candied ginger, becomes creamy, spreadable honey, minimal beeswax, vanilla, slightly burnt shortbread, then the fruitiness turns up again, fully ripe persimmon, gooseberry jelly, towards the end toffee and milk chocolate, a tiny pinch of white pepper lets the spice side persist
    • Finish
      Warming when swallowing, a medium-long finish follows, burnt caramel, toasted oak with vanilla and fine pastry notes, the butter crumbles have turned a little too brown, coconut macaroons, the fruit aromas return with a certain delay, peach and apricot, stored apple, dried pineapple and overripe gooseberry
